Book Reviews of Good Eats: The Early Years

Book Review: Wow! Alton Rocks!
Summary: 5 Stars

I won't go into a detailed description of this book, as others here have done a good job. I just want to share my enthusiasm for this entertaining, informative and eminently readable cookbook. If you've ever watched a Good Eats episode, the background information provided here is priceless. If you have not - then you have a new item on your to-do list and a great treat in store.

In either case, this is a collection of excellent recipes, fascinating food information and trivia and a source of ongoing entertainment from both a literary and gustatory viewpoint. Alton is a veritable encyclopedia of food facts and his dry, wry and somewhat skewed sense of humor makes it a must read for any foodie.

Book Review: Excellent Gift for Foodies and Alton Fans!
Summary: 5 Stars

I received this as a gift last Christmas, and am hoping for "Good Eats 2" this year. :-)
Alton is my favorite food network chef; his presentation is straightforward and entertaining, his recipes are delicious, and he gives good advice. On all of these points, the book does NOT dissappoint.
I agree with the reviewer who pointed out that the text is kind of small (it's not a problem for me now, but later on I'm going to need a magnifying glass probably!).
Lots of fun trivia about the show itself, TONS of yummy recipes, an episode guide and helpful tips, all done up with Alton's usual humor and flair.
I can't recommend this book enough. I love it!

Book Review: Not much I can add...
Summary: 5 Stars

There's really not much to add to the reviews that have already been posted. I do know that, without question, I'll be getting volumes two and three as soon as they are available.

The only change I would make is to the actual book itself (not the contents). I would keep the hardcover but make it a spiral binding so that it lays flat. If that's possible with a book this size.

If you're still in doubt, remember this ancient proverb... saying...whatever...
Alton Brown is like bacon. No matter what you put it on, bacon makes it better. No matter where you find Alton Brown (Television, this book, etc.), he makes it better.

:)

Book Review: Follows Alton Brown's recipe for food entertainment
Summary: 5 Stars

Not just for Alton Brown fans: this would make a nice gift to someone who likes cookbooks and is an A.B. fan -- but it would make a great gift to someone who is unaware of the Alton Brown phenomenon of food education, quirky and fun foodie tidbits, and of course, practical, functional good information delivered in an entertaining way. It's not just a cookbook, but also has behind-the-scenes

Not just a cookbook: My hubby and I read in bed as our nighttime routine, and this book is there. Behind-the-scenes information, color photos, and the same pops of food trivia surrounding the recipes inside. Good buy.

Book Review: A Must Have Cookbook.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an essential cookbook to have on your shelf; Alton Brown is one of those rare chefs that teaches you HOW to cook instead of just teaching you recipes.

This is a beautifully published book with diagrams, full color pictures, and recipes with well written directions. The book is arranged in order of the TV series airing dates and includes an excellent table of contents and index for quick reference.

A big bonus for those of us who will surely be cooking out of this for years--it is a hefty book that stays open flat on a counter! A totally underestimated quality in a good cookbook.
