Book Reviews of Gone Tomorrow (Jack Reacher, No. 13)

Book Review: Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp, John Corey and John Wayne...
Summary: 5 Stars

My first Jack Reacher read, and a good one, a very good one. There will be more, for me, and, I hope, for Lee Child. He's good...and so is Jack Reacher.

Reacher is a Great American, "standing up for what's right and hittin' a lick against what's wrong," as John Wayne said in "The Alamo." Reacher is a modern day John Wayne character, moral, but not too moral:"A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do..."and Reacher, like Wayne, does it well.

Reacher is:

--smarter and personally tougher than John Corey (Nelson DeMille) but Corey is a more loveable, likeable, normal guy.

--is not as cunning,as Mitch Rapp (Vince Flynn), but just as bloody, reckless and effective. Reacher is to John Wayne what Rapp is to James Bond.

And we need them all, for our reading pleasure and for National Security. (We really don't need to know everything there is to know...)

Perhaps Reacher says it best on page 339 in response to "This isn't the Wild West..."

"You got that right. This is the timid West. We need to roll the clock back..."

Off in the distance, do I hear strands of the William Tell Overture or sense John Wayne walking through the door?

Book Review: Kept me awake, kept me in bed.....
Summary: 5 Stars

There are plenty of reviews here to tell you what this book's plot is about so I'll leave that alone.

I've read the entire series and a case can be made that this is the best of the lot. It's taut, and just plain scary, the kind of book that can make you feel like you are in two places at once: the shadowy mountains from which came true mystery, and the streets of New York, described brilliantly. No fictional Colorado town filled with zombies. A real breathing city polluted by terrorism and the minions of government agencies (but not by the generally smarter NYPD) that raise serious questions about what our foreign meddling and post-9-11 world has truly wrought. This is also a more insightful, vulnerable and mature Reacher. And, one not devoid of quick witted humor.

So, it kept me up at night and the next morning, after a tad of coffee and breakfast I went back to bed, curled up, and spent a couple of hours knocking it off. Well sort of, I had to return to the pillow later in the day for the last chapter. First time ever. We guys who work out of the house can do that.

Book Review: A perfect Reacher novel
Summary: 5 Stars

Reacher is back! And in top form! This novel was a perfect combination of mysteries within mysteries combined with suspense and action and just didn't quit!

It opens with our hero sitting in a New York subway. Only a few other people are in the car, and one of them, frightenly enough, exactly fits "the list." The list is a bulleted list of tells, or signs, developed by the Israelis, that a person is a suicide bomber. But why, this woman, in this place -- a subway train in the middle of the night, going to nowhere important? Could it be a mistake? Reacher decides that he must approach her.

What happens from that moment on is what sets the story, as he begins to find out her history, her motivation, and who else may or may not be involved.

This novel represents Mr. Child at his very best. I hope all his fans read this, and that some other folks give it a try. You don't have to have read the rest of the books to pick this one up and read. Enough information is given to you, in a very unobtrusive manner, to enjoy this book.

I recommend it 100%!

Book Review: Could not put it down!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I finished reading this book in two days, I could not put it down. First of all, I do want to say I bought it for my Kindle, I know it was higher priced than usual Kindle books, I have noticed the prices going up. For Lee Child, I am willing to pay that price, there are only a few I would do that for. I like my Kindle for the fact I can buy new books at a lower price. Still, I do not live near a book store with any kind of discounts, so all in all I felt the need to read the Lee Child more than the need to wait for it to come by UPS from Amazon.
Now that said, I am thrilled with this book. I did not love the last Jack Reacher book , I was disappointed, I had loved all the ones earlier. So let me just say, yippee. It was a book I could not put down, which was a problem since I had company for the holiday weekend.
The story was great, I could not figure out what was going on, who was good, who was bad....(although a little graphic on the torture scene, I had to speed through that), all in all, a welcome addition to the Jack Reacher library.

Book Review: Reacher is back!
Summary: 5 Stars

Oh my fellow Reacher Creatures, Jack Reacher is back! This is such a great read, I had a hard time putting it down.

This time as the story opens we're with Reacher on a subway and he's looking at all of the passengers. There's only a few, so Reacher studies them all. Then he comes across something that sets off all sort of alarm bells. He sees a suicide bomber. Reacher learned back in the day what to look for in a suicide bomber, and this woman meet's all of the points of a suicide bomber. All of them. Every. Single. One. Other than that, I don't want to say to much more about the plot, except for, it's a doozy of a read! Gone Tomorrow, has some great plot twists and great characters. At one point, the bad guys have Reacher where they want him, and I was thinking how if Reacher going to get out of this one?? Man, oh man, does he. Before the end comes, Reacher takes out everyone, the only way he knows how.

When you get this, settle down for a great Reacher adventure! Enjoy the ride, I sure did! Reacher is the man!
