Book Reviews of Going Solo in the KitchenBook Review: Good right out of the box Summary: 5 Stars
Just received my copy. I started flipping through recipes when I got home from work. I thought I'd run out to the store once I decided on a recipe. Lo and behold, I came across Fettucine with Onion Sauce. The description began: "On days when your refrigerator is empty, if you have onions, dried pasta, and olive oil you can put together this dish." I'll be danged! My refrigerator was empty! I had onions, pasta and olive oil! And I made the dish - a little over a half hour later I was eating, and it was delicious.
This is a great resource, with great ideas for quick, good quality meals that are faster and better than take out. I'm sold already, and the book paid for itself this evening by keeping me from going out for dinner.
Book Review: EXCELLENT for single cooks Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this cookbook for seven years now and I go back to it time and time again. I don't live alone anymore, as I am now married, but I find most of the recipes adequately serve two. I've also doubled recipes to serve guests. The tips for shopping, storing and recycling food are excellent and dramatically cut the amount of waste I had coming out of my kitchen -- and grocery budget. When I first got this book, I wasn't a kitchen wiz, but even though I am much more experienced, I still find these recipes pleasing and quite tasty. While most recipes call for fresh ingredients, I've substituted canned and still had excellent results. As my stained and sticky copy will attest, this cookbook is a must have!!
Book Review: You don't need any other 'solo cooking' books! Summary: 5 Stars
This book reads easily, almost like a novel! I found myself actually reading the non-recipe content as opposed to what I usually do, which is just looking for good recipes.
I'm a picky eater (and a bit of a culinary snob), but I found many recipes that look great --and easy! I'm a busy guy and this has improved my palate and my life. I look forward to cooking for myself because of the great recipes, the anecdotes, and the useful information on how to shop for one in the grocery store!
The other great thing is that you'll never make a recipe twice with all the variations offered at the end of a recipe.
I would recommend this to any solo cook!
Book Review: My favorite cookbook! Summary: 5 Stars
I could've sworn I reviewed this cookbook YEARS ago! This is the cookbook that made me realize a single girl deserves a nice, home-cooked meal and that it's okay to cook for one.
The recipes are well written and every one that I've tried has been delicious. The pasta on the front cover? Ummm yeah...addicting and ridiculously simple.
Most of the time I sub dried herbs because that's what I have. All you do is add enough for your taste...a little at a time.
I've recommended this book to other single cooks so many times that I've lost count. It really is my favorite cookbook.
Book Review: Great for solo cookers.... Summary: 5 Stars
The proportions in this book are right on for one person. I have quite a few favorites that I like to whip up that are quick and easy. The ingredient lists are not long and the ingredients are easy to find at the grocery store. The only draw back to this cookbook is there is not a calorie or exchange list. This is on my counter top by the stove all the time. This is a great gift for a newly college graduate or for a busy work person.
