Book Reviews of the God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons EverythingCustomer Review: Another Antidote to the Venom of Gullibility Summary: 4 StarsOf course, one must be willing to take the antidote in the first place, which is the first hurdle. Those in most need of the cure will refuse it immediately because of the incitable label on the "bottle" (and the prescribing "physician").
Some of the infected will no doubt take a dose, but alas, the venomous meme has erected an impenetrable barricade around the victim's reservoirs of logic and reason. This particular group will complain about the antidote's harshness, break into a fever of righteous indignation and spasms of circular logic, and finally self-medicate with the placebo of "faith", remaining blissfully poisoned by ignorance and superstition.
Ok, I've run that metaphor into the ground. Mr. Hitchens' "god is Not Great" is a good read that secular folks will enjoy and religious folks will abhor. He tends to ramble a bit in a couple of sections, but otherwise he does a nice job. I particulary liked his refuting of the oh-so-tiresome "Hitler/Stalin were atheists therefore their atrocities were motivated by godlessness" argument -- smugly (and ignorantly) spewed by the faithful.
Overall, a very good book, well worth the time.
