Book Reviews of Go, Dog. Go!: P.D. Eastman's Book of Things That Go

Book Review: Board Book Version is Different - but still good
Summary: 5 Stars

this was a favorite when I was young, so when I found it in a board book version, I bought it immediately.

Keep in mind, the board book is shorter than the original version.... but regardless, it has quickly become my son's absolute favorite.

In this version, it starts with all the dogs jumping out of bed then goes right into the various modes of transportation the dogs are using ( "go by blimp, by boat, by car, go dog go, it's not that far." ). Like the longer version, this one also ends with all the dogs congregating for a party at the top of a tree.

My 18 month old can practically recite the whole story and we can never read it just once. He loves to point out all the pictures he can name (car, dog, boat, etc )

So, while I miss the longer story, my son loves this one. Plus, he can easily hold it in his hands, can turn the heavy cardboard pages, and I don't have to worry about him ripping a page. I still rate this 5 stars.

Maybe when we're out of the board book stage I'll buy the other version, but for now, this one is just fine.

Book Review: Good, Dog. Good! But DIFFERENT
Summary: 5 Stars

This board book is my two-year-old's favorite. He loves the fact that the pages go by quickly, and he has memorized most of it already and enjoys "reading" it himself.

Here's the CAUTION: If you are expecting this book to be the same as the regular hardback book, you will be VERY DISAPPOINTED. The pictures are taken from the regular book, and the title is the same, but the similarities really end there. The text is very different -- not just abridged, but totally changed in most parts -- and the story lines from the regular book are mostly absent in the board book.

If you want a quick board book that your toddler will enjoy carrying around and reading repeatedly, this is your book. If you want a board book similar to the full book, choose a different title, like "Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb."

Book Review: Green Dogs, Red Dogs, "Do you like my hat?" - Vocabulary
Summary: 5 Stars

This was one of my favorites as a child. It became a favorite of my daughter's as well. Now my son is hooked on it.

The book starts simply. "Dog" is the only word on the page. That sets up the theme.

We quickly are taken through comparisons and colors. Black, white, red, blue, yellow, green, in, out, up, down, big, small, stop, go, over and under. Add some simple numbers and the book gains real substance.

But then we have the two plots. First is the "Do you like my hat?" story that runs to the book's conclusion. The other is dogs on the go. They run around, go to sleep, wake up, drive away fast, and finally all congregate at the top of a tree.

Great Eastman illustrations and fun vocabulary will entertain most children

Book Review: Abridged, but wonderful for babies
Summary: 5 Stars

We have both versions of this book: the abridged board book, a favorite of my 20-month-old; and the original extended version, a favorite of my nearly 5-year-old, who can now read it all by himself. They both love it. The board book version, while abridged, is very, very well done. The words are rhythmic and catchy, and from a very early age my son and daughter have both run around the house yelling "Go, Dog, Go!" Toddlers generally lack the patience for the big version - the board book is a fantastic and accessible way to introduce them to the fun of words and language and such concepts as stop and go.

Book Review: A Favorite!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this book, it is one of those books that makes you giggle everytime you open the pages.
In this book we are introduced to dogs, all sizes, all colors and doing all sorts of different activities.
Some are going up, some are going down, some are going round and round. Some are going fast and some are going slow.
Children learn many different concepts in this read about time, color, direction and numbers. It's a fun book with great illustrations that little ones will surely enjoy as they giggle their way from beginning to end.
