The Little Woman was a remarkable read and an easy read,it was as if Gladys Aylward was in the room telling me her story.Being familiar with the Hollywood version titled Inn of the 6th Happiness, it was refreshing to hear Gladys Aylward's own words of her experiences. Certainly her dedication to her religious beliefs were at times repetitive it explained how anyone in her situation survived. Another surprise was the value from Amazon, a new paperback delivered overseas for under $20!! Incredible value. I read this book after hearing about Gladys Aylward from Elizabeth Elliot. The book is a quick read and quite transparent in Gladys assessment of her faith and thoughts on when her faith was waning. I have favorite parts of the book and they center around the obvious strength that God gave her when she gave her will to the Lord. I read quite clearly that all the Lord needs is my willingness and He will provide my needs....not my wants always, but always my needs.

Gladys' life was one that truly is a testimony to the mighty hand of God. She documents how she felt called, where she went and how God used her in this wonderfully, humbling book. It is truly inspirational to see how God was visibly moving and active in her life. It leaves a longing for a closer, more personal walk with God and a more sacrificial life lived for God. This is an amazing and inspiring book about a wonderful woman. When you have read this, I recommend an even more detailed book of Gladys Aylward's life in China called "The Small Woman" (she was about 4'11")by Alan Burgess (the original book of her life). This book is similar to the others written about Gladys Alyward, who was a missionary to China but adds some details not in the other books. It is well written and very interesting reading. Her love for the Chinese people was great and she spent her life giving the gospel to them. Very remarkable and godly woman!
