Book Review: Amazing short story of success and willingness to beat the odds

Dr. Ben Carson came from humble beginnings. The story provides a easy read of Dr. Carson's rise to his position at John Hopkins. He was influenced by role models and discussed in detail how his Mother with a grade school education didn't give up on her sons. She provided the platform for her sons to succeed. Dr. Carson discusses his own struggles as a youth of "fitting-in" with the in crowd and eventually changing his disposition to become the best student he can be.
The book elaborates on the goals he obtained, his med-school experience and his more memorable cases during his tenure at Hopkins. Dr. Carson explains his walk in Christianity and as a faith-based Doctor, prays for direction and understanding through surgical procedures and the healing of his patients. He is a true role model and embraces his position to help others to achieve their goals. You can't help but to feel motivated and move toward your goals and dreams after reading this book.

This well-written book describes the fascinating journey of how one man, born into poverty and considered the "dummy" of his fifth grade class, rose to the position of chief of pediatric neurosurgery at John Hopkins Children's center. Although he encountered many obstacles along his journey, including a temper that caused him to almost kill his best teenage friend, Ben Carson gained insight into what he had to do to reach his life's goal of becoming a doctor. In excellent prose, Carson details how he eventually realized his dream through hard work and an unyielding faith in God. Today, Dr. Carson is best known for giving young children a second chance at life. He has separated Siamese twins and routinely performs a remarkable surgeries in which he removes half of the brain of children with intractable seizures. This book serves as an inspirational story of how we can all overcome life's obstacles and reach our goals.Book Review: A Real Story in an Excellent Book!

Gifted Hands is not a fairy tale; it's the real story of an American black child who grew up in Detroit during the 60s. This book is Carson's autobiography, and he narrates how he overcomes many defiant situations in his childhood, and his teenager years. He becomes one of the most important neurosurgeons in the world. The book is easy to read, besides the fact that it hitches the interest through the story, his life, struggles and successes. During the reading I was able to feel Ben Carson feelings, even though he is an internationally recognized surgeon, whose honesty, religiosity and simplicity are still genuine. He shares magically his clues to get a successful life. Through the reading, my respect for Ben grew until it became admiration. This book shows how dreams become true by working and studying hard. I highly recommend it. I'm sure this book could even change your life as it has done with mine!Book Review: Amazing story

This is an incredible story of a truly inspirational man. I am of the unshakable belief that instead of having our heroes be athletes and pop-stars, they should be men like Ben Carson. He is a living example of what a human being can accomplish with self trust and a little guidance. I have never heard of another person who embodies the word success quite like he has, and yet there is a degree of modesty in his self-assessment. It is as if he would respond that "you may consider me successful, and I am proud of that, but there is nothing special about me. I did not accomplish anything that other people cannot accomplish. The only thing I did was choose clear goals and devote myself completely to accomplishing them." (I doubt he'd object to those words being put in his mouth).
Once again, this book was very inspirational, and a quick and easy read. It left a lasting impression.

As you read this story of Dr. Ben Carson's life you will begin to realize that your dreams can come true, if you are only willing to make them happen. Like all of us, Ben faced plenty of hard times, but with loving support from his mother and a lot of hard work, he rose from the inner city, to a successful student at Yale, to Head of Neurosurgery at one of America's most prestigious hospitals. The faith in God that Ben exhibits, and the peace that it brings him, are sure to make anyone think twice about what they might be missing. This book may start out a bit slow, but soon the magic unfolds,and your heart becomes warmed. If you are looking for an amazing story of inspiration and enlightenment, this is one book that you should not miss.
