Book Reviews of Giada's Kitchen: New Italian FavoritesBook Review: read carefully Summary: 3 Stars
Read the recipes carefully, they all look fairly simple and are simple however some require multiple steps. I made the chicken with spring veggies and while it was good, I don't think it will become a household favorite. I didn't read the recipe carefully and it requires lots of steps (browning the chicken then finishing in the oven then making a sauce) and required 1/4 cup of chopped fresh thyme! That's a lot of thyme which isn't that easy to chop. It also required cipolline onions which I could not find and I live in a large metro area with a Whole Foods right down the street. I also made the potatoes and zuchinni with a parmesan crust. This was good not great and again required many steps, boiling the potatoes then cooking on the stovetop and finally broiling in the oven- too many dirty pans. The best recipe I have tried was the Pecorino crackers- they are like a cookie-cracker and are delish! We crumbled them on salads and they were crunchy and rich. They are also incredibly easy. Would make a great gift during the holidays. I'll keep at it with this book but read more carefully.
Book Review: A Pretty Picture Book Summary: 3 Stars
I was disappointed in this book. I am normally a huge fan of Giada, and learned to cook basically off of her first book, Everyday Italian. But this latest volume seems to me like quick get-rich efforts by the Food Network. All of the recipes appear on recent seasons of her Food Network show, and make buying the book completely unnecessary. And she's wearing the same shirt in almost every picture, as if the Food Net hammered out one day of photo shoots to slam the book together with pre-existing recipes from TV. Some of the recipes are good, some are bland, but overall it's clear pictures and cleavage, not quality, are being used to sell the book.
And, one other thing. Chocolate and cheese panini? Giada, what were you thinking!!
Book Review: I want more from my beloved Giada Summary: 3 Stars
Let me preface this review by saying how much I love Giada. I was anticipating this book so much that I preordered it in June. It came today and I must say that I was a *little* disappointed. I recognized mostly all of the recipes from her shows!! There are very few, if any, that I haven't seen before. Of course, they are all fabulous, but Giada - I want more! :) At least for about $20 I can have them in a nice condensed book version instead of all my printouts from foodnetwork.com.
Book Review: It's ok Summary: 3 Stars
I have had this book for a while. It's ok, nothing special. I would prefer the authentic Italian, not the modernized Italian. If I want to make it lower fat, I know how. Give me the real deal.
Book Review: OK but not great Summary: 3 Stars
This cook book is good but not great. I was hoping to get more of the recipes from her television show.
