Book Reviews of Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road

Book Review: Motorcycles and emotion
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm not an avid book reader by any means, but this one I read cover to cover in record time. I was drawn to it by the romantic idea of riding a motorcycle coast to coast and all over, but Neil's emotional situation really added to it the expirience.
The story of how a man goes from Rock star to nothing in less than a year on goes on a long phyisical journey to find and reconstruct himself after the loss of his wife and daughter. It's a great story about the adventure of motorcycling (better than zen and the art...).

Note: I didn't know who Neil was before I read this and am still not familar with Rush's music, this book has little to do with rush but more so Neil as a real person. It's disappointing to think I found this book in the music section of a local store.

Book Review: Ohhh touchy stuff
Summary: 5 Stars

This man witnesses the death of his only child and then proceeds to watch his beloved wife deteriorate and die of cancer before his very eyes as a result of there daughters death, total meltdown for anybody. However this is not the point obviously because he criticised Americans so lets all just slam the book shut and shun it as arrogant rubbish. Shock horror, in the mists of undying grief he has exercised free speech about how he really feels and some people don't like it, ban it, burn it, it's the 2112 yet to come!!

If Neil were here now looking back at his loses and reading some of these reviews about the one or two cynical remarks he made he's be inclined to say 'WELL EXCUUUUSSSEE ME'. Shows just how damn touchy some people are, go on press the 'no' button on my review touchy!!

Book Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

55000 miles of trying to heal. What is one to do when you live your whole life with a belief of if you do good, you in turn receive good. Then a car wreck and a incurable disease makes you think otherwise. After being a hermit for a few months you know you have to get moving. Before you go far though you have to be told that you thought the bad was over, but it's not. You're best friend will be staying in the friendly confines of a 6 by 9 for awhile. Book made me almost feel as if I was right there traveling with Neil. Have recommended it to a brother and will definitely reread again and again. Have ordered all 4 of his books and have finished Ghost Rider and R30. Now am on Traveling Music and cant wait to get on to The Masked Rider. Enjoy, your humble reviewer.

Book Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

After losing his daughter and wife,Neil Peart completely loses his self. No longer wanting to be that other guy(Neil) he takes on the Identity of John Elwood Taylor, hops on his motorcycle and rides off.
Neil takes on a well documented journey from canada to Mexico, and all points in between. He paints-in words-beautiful landscapes, treacherous roads, undaunting weather,in journal entries and letters to friends and families.
He also tells us of numerous breakdowns of crying when something reminds him of the "other guys" life. Or never wanting to play the drums again. Having no desire to be creative.
Well we all know how it ends with the Rush release "Vapor Trails" and tour. But what it took to get there is a fantastic story.

Book Review: A man half full
Summary: 5 Stars

Any fan of RUSH or the lyrics of Neil Peart should read this book. I have always been fascinated with Mr. Peart's lyrics and have always wondered what he was like as a person. Now I know.
The beginning of this book is a real tear-jerker. Neil handles the details with a nice dash of "Hemingway-like" writing that had me in tears and riveted. His sense of humour was refreshing and unexpected. Some have said the book is redundant and tedious because of the letters included whithin, but I dare say, that it is a good example of the way a tragic occurance keeps popping back into your mind over and over; until you heal, or die.
Feel like you have been getting a raw deal in life? Read Ghost Rider and you may reconsider. Thanks Neil
