Book Reviews of Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road

Book Review: Excellent book and 'power window' into tragedy and triumph!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was hard to put down (literally and figuratively)! Neil just opens up himself to his readers, and one empathizes and sympathizes at his unfathomable and tragic losses. When it rains, it pours, to say the least. Neil loses his precious daughter, his wife, his DOG, and his best freind is incarcerated! WOW!!! Just HOW do you recover from that? Well, Neil shows us, and his description of his 'healing' 14 month motorcycle journey through Canada, the U.S., and parts of Central America prove to be riveting reading. His candor and openness in describing certain people and experiences is appreciated as well. When he goes on to 'dis' some predictable, typical, fat, ugly 'trailer trash' (as we know them to be) travellers, I laughed out loud!!! I would have thought the same thing. My freinds and I constantly put down (in a fun way) such individuals here in Ohio, especially since this state is full of them! Ugly, fat, lethargic, middle-of-the-road, pork rind eating, Chevy pickup driving, minimally educated, uncultured, blue-collar trailer trash!!! All in all, 'Ghost Rider' is a great, honest read.

Book Review: THIS IS A GREAT BOOK BY A GREAT MAN
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is wonderful. It captures Neil in his most vulnerable and troubled time. The pain and agony he had to endure must have been most heart breaking. I read a couple of the reviews here and one person had the nerve to say "he wrote the book from his point of view, not the reader". It's his life and life that he had to go through, it's HIS book in HIS words. We are lucky to have such a brilliant man share such a personal tragedy with us! not many people would talk of such things so openly with people that love Rush or strangers in general. Everyone who has lost someone they love can relate to a degree with what Neil went through. I lost my mother in June of 04, from cancer and I was devestated and still wish she was here. For Neil to lose his wife and only child in a span of months is well, more than a man can endure. This book is under rated! it needs to be circulated more and to more than just Rush fans. Neil, you're a great man to share something so personal with us and I thank you very much for it. PLEASE PICK UP THIS BOOK AND READ IT.

Book Review: Truly a Remarkable and Emotional Journey...
Summary: 5 Stars

This was one of those books I just stumbled across while putting together a list of books to read...I was always a fan of Neil Peart's professional work but, knew nothing of his life. This story was immediately heartbreaking and then to follow his tale of searching for something, anything to help glue the pieces of his life back together was amazing (and often painful). I'm a motorcyclist and know the comfort of long stretches of highway and solitude to help get life back into perspective but, never would I imagine how long one could spend on the road trying to find that inner peace. Quite an parallel from the Bitter Icy corners of North America (and of Mr. pearts mind) to the unwelcome loneliness of the desert (and the sorrow of his mind) to the desperate lost highways of central America (and desperation to "heal") to the chaos and calm of the Southern California Coastline. An amazing journal of recovery after life through a huge obstacle in his way. Great reading and truly inspirational!

Book Review: In Response to Negativity
Summary: 5 Stars

The book is quality, something many humans may not recognize. The awakening of emotions is incredible. The feelings cannot be described. The hecklers in earlier reviews have their own issues and should deal with them alone - perhaps they should travel! Many Rock Stars marry for convenience, with pre-nups, and a lack of trust. They also never become close to their children. Neil Peart, Jackie and Selena, represent family and trust, in spite of the evils of show business. Comments regarding a use of Neil's loss for financial gain in previous reviews are merely the product of cranial-anal insertion disorder. Wake up! If cash was the issue, bongoes & farts could be recorded & published under the Rush name over several years & the pesos would be a - flowin'! Take your hatred elsewhere, while the rest of us enjoy life and hurt at the same time with Neil. (By the way, anyone who objects to the additional letters can treat Book 1 as exactly that-It could have been a single work itself!)

Book Review: Deep, long, interesting read. every Rush fan should read.
Summary: 5 Stars

Neil Peart from the Canadian band known as "Rush" wrote this book from journals after riding thousands of miles on his BMW motorcycle after the tragic deaths of his only daughter, and shortly after the loss his beloved wife.

he sets out to find some meaning and beauty left in the world, by traveling from north to south from cold, snowy mountains, to dry, lonely desert roads.

as you read you can see how he reshapes who he is and how he feels, finding some decent people along the way in little towns, and capturing the beautiful landscape. but he also faces treaturous weather, haunting memories and trouble with the traffic police.

its a interesting book because in every chapter, he writes a little differently- from sulking and empty, to goofy and upbeat.
if your are not one for slow moving and highly descriptive books- i would pass, however if you do like this kind of read or you love rush, by all means pick this one up.
