Book Review: Beautifully illustrated, wonderfully written band biography.

Right now, I am enjoying reading this book for the second time. Armando Gallo, an Itallian entertainment correspondent is both an excellent writer and an excellent photographer. Since Genesis won over Italy with their interesting brand of operatic rock music before they won over their own country folk in England back in the seventies, it worked out that an Italian journalist should become their number one fan and biographer. This book offers an exquisite ballance of text and photos which will exite any fan of Genesis, or even music or photography in general. The book covers the story of Genesis (the band, that is, not the first book of the Old Testament) from their formative years in the sixties up to their days of world-wide popularity in the eighties. Many of the photos are printed in black and white, but the mid-section of the book offers absolutely stunning large color photos that show you how Genesis concerts look as exiting as they sound. The introduction is written by Mike Rutherford (guitars, basses, bass pedals, etc.). The latter part of the book features individual biographies of Rutherford, Steve Hackett (guitars), Tony Banks (keyboards, guitar), Phil Collins (vocals, drums), and Peter Gabriel (vocals, flute, percussion). There is also some biographical information about some of the other musicians who have performed in Genesis, such as Anthony Phillips, Chester Thompson, and Daryl Stuermer. I also highly recommend Armando Gallo's _From One Fan To Another_ which is also about Genesis, but is mostly photography with only a bit of text; it makes a fine companion to _I Know What I Like_.
