Book Reviews of Fuzzy Bee and Friends (Cloth Books)

Book Review: Happy hours for mom and baby!
Summary: 5 Stars

My son has several of the Roger Priddy "... and Friends" books and he really loves them all. This one is a particular favorite because of its great variety of textures and flaps. The colors are so bright and contrasty, especially the bee on the cover, and that really appeals to the under-1 set.

The dragonfly (with translucent "wings" that the reader can grab) and the beetle (with iridescent blue shells that can be lifted, manipulated, and lovingly gummed) are big hits. And all the "...and Friends" books feature the crinkly-sounding cover that babies can't get enough of. My son even enjoys opening and closing the velcro closure, which makes a fascinating sound all its own!

What I love most about these books is that I can leave them in the crib when my baby sleeps and not worry about having sharp things poking him, or having him choke on a loose part. I've found these books very sturdy and safe. I often wake up to find him already awake, sitting in his crib "reading" them quietly, and as a mother I can tell you that any book that can buy you a few minutes' extra sleep in the morning is worth its weight in platinum.

Book Review: Chewable book helps baby develop "appetite" for reading
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this book for my newborn because I wanted her to grow up loving to read. When she was a few months old, she loved to chew on the soft cloth pages and stare at the brightly colored pictures. Then she learned how to turn the pages. Now at 10 months, she still loves to touch the 3-D part of each page and hear me read the simple rhymes.

We love all of the different objects and textures that she can touch and explore on each page:
1) Fuzzy black and yellow bee
2) Black vinyl ladybug spots
3) Pink corduroy earthworm
4) Blue metallic beetle wings
5) Red satin butterfly wing
6) Black stringy spider legs
7) Mesh dragonfly wings
8) Shiny red snail shell
9) Blue metallic fly eyes

This crinkly cloth book is easy for babies to hold and great for teething. It also keeps little hands busy during car rides. Although the manufacturer recommends surface cleaning only, I've successfully washed mine inside a mesh lingerie bag on the gentle cycle. And it still looks new...

Book Review: All-around wonderful
Summary: 5 Stars

I've never heard of a cloth book until I found it here. It's a clever concept, a book made of fabric with pages that crinkle.

It's a fantastic sensory experience for my 6 month old son to hear the crinkling when he grabs the book. He grabs something, and a sound results from it! He especially loves to grab beetlebug's blue wings and put them in his mouth.

The two-sentence rhymes to describe each of Fuzzy Bee's friends are cute and fun. He'll appreciate them later when he's older but he can still play with the book for now. The cloth book is great for different ages because he can use it as a toy now as a baby and enjoy the text when he's older.

The only thing my husband wondered was why Fuzzy Bee didn't have his own two-sentence description when all his friends had one.

Book Review: It is what it is
Summary: 5 Stars

My 4 month old has loved this book for a couple months now. It's a go-to when he's fussy. The text also makes a good song if you set it to a tune.

As for all the complaints about the publisher "pulling a fast one" by removing two pages, I suspect that has something to do with some of the other complaints about the spider seeming like a possible choking hazard. Personally I'd rather have the shorter/safer version, but maybe that's just me.

Also, it's true that the plot and character development are somewhat thin, as another reviewer noted. However, I might point out that the book is targeted at infants.

My kid doesn't complain about the 2 missing pages in the new version or the lack of literary complexity.

Book Review: A terrific buy
Summary: 5 Stars

My three month old daughter loves this book. We can't even get past the cover b/c she loves the crinkling sound it makes. The colors are bright and vibrant, and its filled with lots of different textures as well...from the fuzz on the bee to the cordoroy on the worm, to the nylon on the dragonfly. I've also tested the covering over the snail and it seems very durable. I've tugged at it with all my might and it stays on just fine. I've even test-chewed a little and it seems like it could be chewed through, but it would take quite some time to do. The instruction tag says to "surface wash only" so that's what I do and the colors stay fine.
