Book Review: The most enjoyable musical experience I've ever had
Summary: 5 Stars
The central idea in this book, which is to try to write 20 songs in 12 hours, is a godsend. 3 hours into my "day session" (as the author calls it), I had already recorded four or five brand-new songs (not finished material by any means, but very good starts) and was repeatedly getting out of my chair to jump up and down like an over-excited five-year old. I cannot describe the feeling of freedom that this exercise provides. I ended the day physically and mentally exhausted, and with 12 songs, almost half of which are good enough that I'm actually excited to go back and revise and extend. I've had most of them running through my head all day and I love them. Normally after an hour of working on a song I'm so disgusted with it I never want to think about it again. This difference is night and day. It's like being a kid again.
The book itself is a very entertaining read, and while you could probably boil everything substantive that the author says into 10 or 15 pages, I still highly recommend reading the whole book just for amount of inspiration it provides.
