Book Reviews of Frightful's Mountain

Book Review: A Book For When You're Bored
Summary: 2 Stars

I had to read this book for a project at school and I thought My Side of the Mountain was boring. Then I read On the Far Side of the Mountain and I thought that was better than the first. Then finally I read Frightful's Flight and I learned so much. I learned a lot about falcons and how to take care if them. I enjoyed this book and I thought it was a lot better than the first two. But I still think that this book is better to read when you're really bored.

Book Review: Fell out of love
Summary: 1 Stars

I read "My Side of the Mountain" as our bedtime book for my adventurous seven year old. I remember how this story captured my imagination as a child and made a lastly impression for good on me, and I wanted to share this experience with her. Since the sequels weren't written when I was a child, I was excited to discover the two new books and expected them to continue the great story telling of the first. This is not the case. We somewhat enjoyed "The Far Side of the Mountain", the second in this series, but I wish we had never started reading "Frightful's Mountain".

Other comments have addressed the content of the book being a "tirade against business and government". This objective began to erode the story down to one conflict after another where Ms. George used the underdeveloped characters as puppets to present her ideas. The charm of the story is nonexistent, the great sense of adventure is gone. What she has written is a meandering account of every situation that would prevent a peregrine falcon from surviving today. Just after halfway through the book we stopped. We no longer cared about Sam or Frightful. What a terrible fate to characters that we had fallen in love with just weeks before.

Book Review: One star is too many
Summary: 1 Stars

I read "My Side of the Mountain" as a child. It remained one of the few children's books that I reread once a decade or so. Then I read the second book. Not as good, but sequels seldom are. Then I read this piece of excrement. Thankfully, I borrowed it from the library and didn't pay any money for it.

Mrs. George takes her wonderful tale and turns it into this tiresome ham-fisted tirade against business and government. There's an awkward screed against one group or another in every chapter - with only a few of the "enlightened" not tarred and feathered.

I used to be a fan. Now, I doubt I'll give my niece and nephew any of her books for fear they might read this one.

Book Review: this book deserves 0 stars
Summary: 1 Stars

this book was crazy and disturbing. when frightful has to leave, alice and sam go out and find a goshawk because they can't have a falcon. it was really horrible because the parents of the goshawks were all mad and stuff. i hate how frightful is trained to do all that stuff and how she wants to obey sam and stuff. frightful's mountain was a really bad book. don't read it if you are really in to the animals staying in their natural habitat thing.
