Book Reviews of Force: Dynamic Life Drawing for Animators, Second Edition

Book Review: The best I have found
Summary: 5 Stars

I just finished reading this book the first time through, and it's great. All of the other reviews are spot on. It does help to have some knowledge of anatomy, but if you don't, you can still learn from this book, and it will make learning anatomy more fun. It has lots of great full page drawings too. I've noticed improvements in my skills, and look forward to going through it again in the future.

Book Review: Not the text but the images
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't know about Mr. Mattesi's theory on drawing movement: it looks a bit too esoteric and obscure, and after a while I just stopped reading it, but his drawings are really really good and I learned a lot just observing them. I recommend this book because if you're interested in drawing human body in movement there are lots of tricks and techniques: it may improve your drawings.

Book Review: Force Dynamic Life Drawings for Anomators
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is a very practical source for animators to bring life and drama into their work. Excellent renderings and examples for developing each concept presented in the chapters. The book is intended to be used in sequence in order to build from one concept to the next. Easy read and approach for students that already have some background in drawing.

Book Review: Hot Sauce for Figure Drawing
Summary: 5 Stars

This book has some of the best information regarding rhythm and movement within a composition. A figure may be well drafted but lack energy and feel stiff. This book teaches how to recognize directional force and use it to move the viewer's eye through the figure giving it a sense of life. Think of this as hot sauce for figure drawing.

Book Review: Animator
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this book for Xmas for my son's girlfriend. Both my son and his girlfriend are Animation students at San Jose State University. They have to draw constantly. I mean CONSTANTLY. She said that this is a terrific book. This is coming from an Animation student and you cannot get better feedback than that. Highly recommend this book.
