Book Reviews of Football for Dummies, Second EditionBook Review: not perfect, but it's all right Summary: 4 Stars
I am not american. I have allways enjoyed wachting football, anyway. I was thinking about playing madden video game, but I needed some "previous study" for positions etc. As well I work in sports marketing so I thought the book could be of some interest, as it has been.
I recommend it for people like me, wanting to take a step inside, but not too much inside, or, as you say in other reviews, girlfriends and other "football widows"... Well written, in witty style, easy to read, it definetely captures your attention, and contains a fair 90% of the answers to the questions I had about the game, and some interesiting tips and points of view I enjoyed.
One huge con: the graphics. I had read a book about football years ago, and it had wonderful colored drawings with positions, etc, and the book is kind of poor in this matter.
Book Review: Second Edition is Good Summary: 4 Stars
This is a good book for people who's understanding and following of football ranges from totally clueless to moderate interest. The second edition picks up some key things that were absent from the first edition like overtime and how it functions on the college and pro levels.Pretty easy read that isn't patronizing, and even people who understand football will find the facts and personal stories in the book exciting...if you're comfortable reading a book that says "Dummies" on the cover, that is.
Book Review: Good But Too Focused on NFL Summary: 4 Stars
This was a good book, but too focused on NFL. If you are a big-time NFL fan, it might be nicer, but I prefer college football. This is only important because of the final sections of the book where there are the top-10 lists (which are really top-10-NFL lists). Otherwise, it does an adequate job. The for-dummies part was adequate, but not extensive. The personal experience was good and kept my attention.
Book Review: Non Fiction Summary: 4 Stars
Football for Dummies by Howie Long is actually a reasonable book. It would probably be ok for showing to non-yanks, as well, to try and fill them in on the basics of the gridiron, and how it is covered and watched.
Gives detail on positions, downs, the basic rules, all the sort of useful information for the casual viewer or those starting to want to learn.
Book Review: Impressive Summary: 4 Stars
Haven't yet read through the whole thing, but its a good book. My friends have already borrowed it, and it provides with enough general info with certain details that you feel like you know football to a certain level. Would definitely recommend.
