Book Reviews of Fool Moon (The Dresden Files, Book 2)Book Review: So much fun! Summary: 5 Stars
I love werewolf novels (gee, was the name a tipoff?) And this one definitely delivered!
First, we get to jump back into Harry Dresden's world-between-worlds, a definite plus! Then not only do we get werewolves--we get them in several different flavors! Butcher really fleshed out the different types of werewolf, to the point that each species, so to speak, had its own persoanlity.
I'm also enjoying the budding romance between Harry and Susan. It's a nice addition to the plot without *becoming* the plot. And it's very realistic (well, other than the supernatural aspects). Harry, Susan, and the other characters all seem like real people.
Once again, exellent!
Book Review: Excellent series Summary: 5 Stars
While many authors of a series start off strong and then taper aff after the third or fourth book in a series, Jim Butcher continues and even improves over time. Butcher does a great job of introducing and handling plots and sub-plots, constantly moving the main character forward in his development. He also has a fantastic supporting cast of characters who change and grow through the course of the series.
Another thing Butcher does really well is handle the tone of the stories. He deftly handles and balances both heavy and light elements extremely effectively.
Always an entertaining read. One of the few series where I am always looking forward to the next book.
Book Review: Kept me turning the pages. Summary: 5 Stars
Another very fun Dresden Files book. The number two in the series is even more action packed than the first. These are just flat out fun reads. A great mix of horror, fantasy, and mystery. This book focuses on some brutal attacks taking place around the city during full moons... guess what might be doing that. What I like about Jim Butchers first two books is that he uses old lore to build his stories then incorporates some of his own myths to the subjects. The main character, Harry Dresden, is such a great character in the fact that even though he has supernatural powers he still comes off as a very real character that readers can connect to. Really enjoying this series so far.
Book Review: Enjoy the ride Summary: 5 Stars
I couldn wait to read the 2nd in the series, of course I feel that way about the entire series....Werewolves werewolves werewolves oh my.....Karrin Murphy of the Special Investigations unit needs a lil help from our old friend Harry again, they have there trust issues but when something strange happens ...who you gonna call, the only practicing wizard in the Chicago phone book thats who.
We see more sides of our beloved and sometimes bumbling wizard
detective. Still as witty as ever. He'll muttle through and get the job done, because HE has to, know one else can.
Very enjoyable book, lots of action.
Book Review: Sequel Exceeds Expectations Summary: 5 Stars
I recently read Jim Butcher's first Dresden novel, "Storm Front", and enjoyed it, but was not overwhelmed by any means. However, the promise was there. I loved the combination of hardboiled, well maybe medium boiled, private eye, the adventure, and more than a strong touch of the occult and supernatural thrown into the mix. With his newest Dresden sequel "Fool Moon", Mr Butcher has taken off the rough edges, delineated his characters and sped up the action to make this a really fun and exciting read. I can hardly wait for more Dresden adventures and look forward to seeing future character developments.
