Book Reviews of Food Made Fast: Slow Cooker (Williams-Sonoma)

Book Review: love this book
Summary: 5 Stars

i love this cookbook, it's so easy to follow and the recipes are delicious. the only thing to be aware of is the recipes are for a 7 qt crock pot. mine is only 3 1/2, so i just halve the recipes.

Book Review: High Quality Recipes
Summary: 4 Stars

So much better than other slow cooker recipes that I have. Not "add 2 cans of mushroom soup" cookbook. The browning and deglazing makes this slow cooker food that you would actually want to eat. This does take some time, but it is worth it. The pulled pork sandwiches were a big hit and the adobo chicken and cuban chicken were also tasty. It is the first cookbook for slow cookers that I haven't been disappointed in. Quite pleased with it and the dinners that it produces.

Book Review: Just OK, recipes are not outstanding though
Summary: 3 Stars

I've made several recipes from this book. A lot of them really just don't add a ton of flavor. On top of the flavor lacking, several of the recipes are very non-traditional. I know everyone is different but I was expecting several takes on a great beef stew, etc. They have a guiness beef stew recipe, which sounds amazing, but it's a total flop. The recipe is not rich with flavor, it's more like beef in watered down beef broth with some vegetables. I've tried it twice, really trying to give it a chance. I wanted these recipes to work.

I own most of the books in this series, and I would say that this book is OK, but if you are looking for a great slow cooker book, this is not it. Out of 20 or so recipes, there are about 4 that are decent.

I really enjoy the layout of this book. It lays out how much prep time, then how much cook time. Most of the recipes do take the 8 hours in the slow cooker. Every recipe has a picture to go with it, which is a really nice twist. Occasionally it has recommendations on a side dish too (no recipe for side dishes though).

Book Review: Not exactly "made easy"
Summary: 3 Stars

While I love the recipes (mole and bolognese sauce)and pictures, the title is misleading. Many of the recipes call for extensive prepping. The whole reason I like to use my slow cooker is so that I can basically throw the ingredients into the pot, turn on the timer and enjoy a few hours later...that's what I consider "easy."

Book Review: Small Book, Fancy Recipes
Summary: 3 Stars

Alot of the recipes in this book look interesting and tasty, but I'm not sure if I'll ever make some of the recipes, such as the duck recipe. Nice book to add to my collection though.
