Book Reviews of Follow the RiverBook Review: An Amazing Tale... Summary: 5 Stars
I have rafted parts of the New River and have witnessed how unforgiving the terrain can be. I have also hiked areas similiar to those described as part of Mrs. Ingles' journey. I know how challenging hiking in region can be with the proper modern equiptment, maps and adequate food. The author's descriptions of the wilderness were very accurate. I felt as if I were walking right along with Mary. It may sound like a cliche but I could feel her pain. The author used many vivid images that may not be for the faint of heart but for anyone who love stories about the true strength of the human spirit. This book is definitely for you.
Book Review: Simply Captivating Summary: 5 Stars
This book was recommended to me several months ago by a friend who enjoys early american history as I do. I waited several months and finally bought it.
WOW, It was amazing. This author does a magnificant job of making the characters come alive. I felt that at times I was making the long trek back with Mary and her companion Ghetel. What is more amazing yet is that it is based on a true story. It is really unbelieveable what these woment went throught to get back home.
There were times I was on the edge of my seat and just couldn't put it down.
A real page turner !
Highly recommended.
Book Review: Amazing Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the best books of fiction I have ever read. If you can stand to get through the massacre scene at the beginning,( which is extremely violent, graphic and involves the murder of a baby),and read about the journey of this woman, you will be amazed. I cried and prayed for a woman who was long dead before I was ever born. The sheer strength of will, and spirit of survival is enough to put those of us living our comfortable lives to shame. Read this book, then read "Tecumseh; Panther in the sky" by Thom. Great books, teaching history, sociology, and geography while entertaining.
Book Review: Great Novel of Strength of Human Spirit Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this book based on the reviews on Amazon and I wasn't disappointed. I was hooked from the first chapter and never had a "I wish this would move along" moment during the entire book. In fact, I found myself slowing down toward the end, wishing to make it last longer. Knowing that this is a true story makes it even more of an interesting read. Mary Ingles and her story will be something you will always remember. I would recommend this book to everyone, male or female.
I also ordered the movie after finishing the book. Sad to say, the movie was not good.
Book Review: OH, I COULDN'T DO THAT Summary: 5 Stars
When reading this book, I would put it down and say out loud OH, I couldn't do that and then I would think, most women are never really challenged to do something so hard that they learn their true character. Modern women are not allowed to be as bold and as fearless and as determined. What are you capable of? Maybe if you are lucky you will find out and it will inspire you to try new things and new adventures and realize your own worth. But in the mean time read this book and know that women can do whatever they put their minds and backs and wills to.
