Book Reviews of Five against OneBook Review: Band vs Rolling Stone Summary: 4 Stars
Some say they Kim Neely's attack on the band is in part to do with her connections to ROLLING STONE mangazine who have also attacked Pearl Jam in their magazine. But what she does in the book is to show the other side of the story that you get from Pearl Jam's press. Fans may not like what it reports but you have to see both sides of the story even if it puts Eddie Vedder in bad light. While some say the interviews are slanted against the band on some topics the band's view would be slanted the other way. Read this and then read Pearl Jams side of the story and then pick the middle ground cause both sides have some truth to their views.
Book Review: A great early history of PJ Summary: 4 Stars
As a fan I found this book a very interesting read. Great details and stories go into each member's history and the formation of pearl jam. Excellent detail on the first few albums.
You should keep in mind that this is written from the point of view of a Rolling Stone magazine author so it is sure to have a slightly different angle on things than a fan. It was released just after Yield and therefore has a very very quick summary of the few years before it.
Of course pearl jam is still going strong and could probably warrant a second volume of this book. But this is a great look back at the early days of Pearl Jam.
Book Review: An informative book Summary: 4 Stars
Interesting reading full of facts that may enlighten you and give you better understanding to the band. The thing I didn't like about the book is that although it covered the early album and tours, explaining every song in detail, it says less and less about the other albums. It is good the book has a chapter about Eddie Vedder, but where are the chapters about the rest of the band members??. Pearl Jam is formed by 5 guys not just one!
Book Review: This needs to be a Pearl Jam book, not a book on Ed. Summary: 4 Stars
The book was informative, but, The book is about PEARL JAM noteddie vedder, and how bad he was, and like many reveiws say, turn intoan eddie bio mid point. Why dont we hear a little about Stones or Mikes or even a little about the overlooked BEST DRUMMER EVER Dave? How about a little history on them? Buy this book if you want to learn about eddies parents, and his childhood, but not if you actually care about the other band members.
Book Review: Good Book...Basic Info...Maybe too one sided! Summary: 4 Stars
I have read this book and found it to be an overall good read. The first half may be a little boring and drawn out, the second half seemed to be a little too focused on Eddie. However, I think people would find this to be an enjoyable read.
