Book Reviews of First Meals Revised: Fast, healthy, and fun foods to tempt infants and toddlers

Book Review: GREAT for picky eaters!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a 3 year old with severe food allergies and I was desperate to do anything to get him to eat SOMETHING! We looked at this book together and because of all the pictures he really got excited about the food. I am not sure I would buy this book because of the baby food, although I will make some of the baby food as 'dips' for veggies. It is inspirational, although I don't usually have the time for some of the recipes, I do some prep stuff ahead of time and have it stored in the freezer.

If you have a picky eater and are desperate for some inspiration and help, then this is the book for you. If your child is a nonpicky eater but you enjoy cooking for fun with your child, then this is the book for you. If you don't have a picky eater and are a busy working mom who does not enjoy cooking, then borrow this from the library because there are some good easy ideas that are fun for you and your child but I wouldn't buy it.

Book Review: Best Ever Cookbook
Summary: 5 Stars

I have many cookbooks and many children's cookbooks. I was searching for the healthiest and most delicious foods for my child. After reading books on nutrition by Dr. Sears and Ruth Yaron's book, I have found that Annabel Karmel's books are the best compilation of serious nutrition, healthy cooking, food preparation and the most key and important factor....great flavor. Her recipes are great for all ages...my whole family eats the recipes from her books. For example, her spinach lasgne recipe in her second edition First Meals is so great we cannot stop eating it...after a very extensive search and trial and error from other recipes in other cookbooks....we found a true award winning recipe. All her recipes are great...I can say that after cooking for two decades(and the past five years cooking for children) This cookbook should be on every family's shelves.

Book Review: Great book
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using this book to prepare food for my baby (now 12 months old) since we started solids at 4 months. As some have complained, some of the recipes are exotic and labor-intensive but mostly I have used them for inspiration. I always batch cook food for my little one and then freeze it in ice cube trays so I have a variety of dishes to re-heat for several weeks. I've made simple purees and some of the more complicated chicken and fish dishes (using a blender to puree). If I was missing an ingredient (don't normally keep leeks on hand), then I would just leave it out or substitute a different veggie. My little one eats everything that isn't nailed down - including almost anything off my plate and I think keeping his food nutritious, delicious, and homemade from the start has a lot to do with it.

Book Review: WONDERFUL: If you are nutrition-conscious and like to cook!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book isn't for everyone, but is WONDERFUL for our little girl and our family. My husband and I are determined to raise our daughter eating a WIDE variety of healthy foods... not a picky eater like so many children today.
The recipes are fairly simple. She does have some foods common to England, but I found making substitutions to be easy. The foods/recipes are nutritious and yet appealing to our daughter. She has loved each of the recipes thus far, with the exception of one... this had fish and this was her first time to try fish. Nevertheless, we will keep trying and I believe she will be liking this dish soon as well.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to provide nutritious, wholesome foods to their child/children. Loving to cook helps as well!

Book Review: The best baby gift I received...
Summary: 5 Stars

I had this book on my wish list when my daughter was born and was thrilled to get one as a gift. As a first time parent, I had no clue what I was doing and was exceptionally paranoid about knowing what was OK to feed my baby and when. This book alleviated a great deal of uncertainty for me.

The recipes are practical and delicious. I followed her advice about freezing food in ice cube trays and saved a lot of time and money doing so. Homemade baby food is so reasonable and healthy. My daughter is 4 now and a great eater. I attribute a great deal of it to the variety and fun this book helped me to create. We still use it frequently and many of the ideas have become second nature to me. Additionally, it has become my standard gift to all new parents. Definitely worth it.
