Book Reviews of Firefly: The Official Companion: Volume OneBook Review: When you're lonely for the 'verse, pick up the Companion Summary: 5 Stars
Can't get enough of the Firefly series? Then this book will ease your pain.
From the first feel of this book's thick glossy pages, I found myself savoring Whedon's beautiful creation all over again. The closeup photographs of various Firefly props-- Mal's gun, Zoe's vest, the spacesuits--captured this world even more vividly than I had expected. Cast interviews added depth to my understanding of the characters.
But, best of all, was reading the shooting scripts and seeing how Whedon originally envisioned the episodes. I love seeing how he uses language, camera angles and shifting scenes to create emotion.
If you're a fan of Firefly, this is a must have companion to ease the loss of a beloved show.
Book Review: A MUST for fans of Firefly Summary: 5 Stars
I know- that tag line is SO cliche', but it's true. I wasn't sure why it said 'volume one' when I prebought it- but incase you didn't read that part- it's only the first 7 episodes. The good part is, they went through the process of getter GREAT photos on and off set and you get the entire script, not just the parts they shot. The cover is the beautiful cast shot we've seen over and over, but Volume Two has a new and brilliant cover featured in back as a Coming Soon.
If you're a Firefly fanatic- or you've never seen the show before (I don't think there's any inbetween) this is a great coffee top book
Book Review: Can't wait for Vol. 2 Summary: 5 Stars
Since we can no longer have Firefly, the series, except what we were able to get on DVD, this is a "fix" for a longtime fan of this wonderful story. I would have like to have had even more comments from the cast, maybe even a full-fledged interview with each of them, as they did with the creator of the show, Joss Whedon. I look forward to the next volume and still am ever hopeful that at some point in the near future, one of the networks will realize what a great series this was and still could be. My family misses this show to this day. What terrific casting and storytelling.
Book Review: Interesting Summary: 5 Stars
Honestly, I didn't really know what I was getting when I bought this guide. It's got the scripts for the first half of the shows and a bunch of behind-the scenes stuff. It's very interesting to read through the scripts and see what was cut from the show - there's some interesting character tidbits there that I think Firefly fans will love.
It's not the "ZOMG ALL FIREFLY FANS MUST HAVE THIS" book I've heard it was, but it's still good. If you want an interesting read and more info on the Firefly 'verse and how it was made, then get this book.
Book Review: Excellent - More Info! Summary: 5 Stars
The Firefly Companion Vol 1 is well worth every penny (and makes ordering Vol 2 when it comes out a "no-brainer").
Six scripts are included, but the real gems are the articles on the characters. These are in "light brown" in the table of contents so easily overlooked in your rush to see what is included. All through the book are excellent, clear close up photos of many props.
This is really a must have for the serious Firefly fan.
