Book Reviews of Finger Lickin' Fifteen (Stephanie Plum Novels)

Book Review: Plum Pleasing!
Summary: 5 Stars

I found that Finger Lickin' Fifteen wasn't nearly as bad as some have made it out to be. I've been with the series since the first book and I'm still hooked. Stephanie Plum is still her unlucky silly self. She still has her relationship problems with the two men in her life, her hamster is still remarkably kicking, and she's still blowing up cars by accident in her spare time...but come on we know that that is just how Stephanie Plum rolls. Theses books are suppose to be fun, easy, entertaining reads and I was never once disappointed with the plot and flow of the book. I found myself laughing out loud countless of times on the witty way that Janet Evanovich writes and the crazy and eccentric characters that she conjures up for us to enjoy. We all know that Stephanie Plum has trouble making money at the bonds office because her and Lula are pretty pathetic at the bounty hunting (but isn't that part of their charm?) so when Ranger needs Stephanie's help with a Rangeman problem she's all for some extra cash. Makes sense to me...and the fact that Stephanie can hardly take care of herself domestically is endearing. Lula is still spunky with her outrageous vocabulary and outfits, but this book she has a murderer after her because of what shes witnessed. This book is just a mixture of hysterical situations, bounty hunting extravaganzas, and romantic qualms that could only happen to Stephanie Plum and the people in her life. I was not left disappointed, in fact I was left looking forward to the next book in the series (#16). I still want to know what happens to Stephanie and the others next. Great book!

Book Review: back to it's original greatness
Summary: 5 Stars

In this latest installment of the Stephanie Plum series Lula is being hunted by an axe wielding maniac and his cohort after she witnessed a murder (beheading, really). The victim was a star chef on the Food Network and he was about to be in a big BBQ cook off contest happening right in town in a few days. Can you see where this is going? Lula and Grandma Mazur (in what I can only picture as classic Lucy and Ethel style) jump right into a bad-guy-hunting/BBQ-Cooking whirlwind; and of course Stephanie is pulled right into the middle it.

I was really surprised to see this book get such poor reviews. While I do agree that Evanovich's recent books have been slipping over the last couple of years, I am so glad that I kept hanging in there. Finger Lickin' Fifteen (Stephanie Plum Novels) had all the hilarious antics and steamy romantic tension that I love! I mean, seriously - Grandma and Lula cooking ribs, car explosions (again), axe wielding lunatics, and of course RANGER! I know some people don't love Lula storylines and if you're favorite stories are very Stephanie focused, this one may not be for you. But some of my favorite characters are the background characters like Lula, Grandma, and Stephanie's family. So this story made me feel like I was revisiting old, albeit crazy, friends.

I also definitely like Stephanie better when Morelli is out of the picture. The more Ranger, the better! Can't wait for 16!

Book Review: I really liked it; I don't understand the negative reviews
Summary: 5 Stars

I found this book to be very much like the first 11 or 12 books. It was very funny in many places (Lula stuck in the window, the hotdog costume scenes, etc). I thought it had the right amount of Ranger and of Joe, and they were both as I expected them to be. Stephanie was her usual self, which is why I love the books so much. Lula, Grandma Mazur, Stephanie's parents, Connie - all were perfect. There were the usual dinner at the parents' house scenes, the skips getting away scenes, just about all the usual aspects of the Stephanie Plum series were here.

I had looked the book up on Amazon just to verify that it was out, 2 days after it was available, because I forgot for sure when it was supposed to be out, and I saw the review score, which was low, so I decided to read the reviews - the good, so-so, and bad.

I decided to buy the book anyway (actually from Costco on my way home from work that day) and read it that evening. And I really like the book. I just do not understand the negative reviews. This past Monday I talked to a co-worker who is a fellow Stephanie Plum fan, and she and her 18 yo daughter had read the book over the weekend, and they both really liked the book.

Truthfully, I'd probably only give the book 4.5 stars, not 5, but with so much (undeserved, imo) negativity here, I'm rounding up, not down.

Book Review: Evanovich does it again.
Summary: 5 Stars

A Stephanie Plum novel is like a visit with old friends. Whether it's Lula, who sees things a little differently than most people, or Grandma Mazur, who has thrown off the shackles of expectations, I look forward to every visit.

There are two things I would like to say about Stephanie Plum. First, while she is definitely inept at apprehensions, she is a very good detective. She always figures out where to look and what is really going on. All the way back to the first book where she was the only person who knew how to find FTA Joe Morelli. And it was she who solved the murder that he was charged with. In this book, Ranger asked for her help to save his business because he trusted her judgment. That's a pretty good recommendation.

The second thing about Stephanie is I understand her reluctance to chose between Ranger and Morelli. Picking one perfect guy means giving up the other perfect guy. I've thought about this for the last two or three books, and I'm not sure which of the two I want her to be with.

One thing is certain. I had fun reading this book and will read it, along with the entire series, again and again. If you need a pleasant distraction or just want a light hearted good time, you will find it in this book.

Book Review: Fun, sexy frolic through the Trenton underbelly
Summary: 5 Stars

What else is there to say? You either love these books or you don't. I happen to love them, and have to read each one the minute it arrirves. I've read the negatve opinions, but with all due respect, this isn't Pulitzer Prize winning writing. It is pure fun. I love Evanovich's characters and I love her humor. There are enough funny twists and turns in Finger Lickin Fifteen to keep one turning the pages until the unexpected ending.

I have to admit that I am becoming a bit weary of the ever-present sexual tension triangle thing that persists in this series -- between Stephanie and Ranger; between Stephanie and Joe Morelli. In this tale, Stephanie has broken off with Morelli, and is "off" men. But she goes to work for Rangeman and we all know what that means -- she is spending way too much time in close proximity to the mysterious sexy Ranger. Well, okay she is even sleeping in his bed, and she clearly is crazy about him. Who is this dame anyway, Mother Teresa???? I know I am not the only female reader mentally shrieking, will you please consummate this relationship (again) already!!! I won't say what happened, but it won't be the biggest surprise of this book.

Read it; it's hard to be disappointed in something that is so much fun.
