Book Reviews of Finding Fish: A Memoir

Book Review: A Must Read
Summary: 5 Stars

I want to encourage all of you to read Finding Fish. Antown's story is one that offers great insight, is poignant, illustrates forgiveness and gives hope.

Moreover, we need to shed light onto the foster care system and expose it for what it is.

A while back Antwone and I were on National Public Radio together talking about our respective foster care experiences, which were both in Cleveland. We have a lot in common.

I am profoundly grateful that his book is so widely read and thrilled about the movie just now out. I wish him every due success and only wish that all foster care survivors can someday expererience the love, success and share the courage that Antowne has exhibited.

Book Review: Triumph of the human spirit
Summary: 5 Stars

Mr. Fisher's story is truly inspirational. He brings the reader along with him during every atrocity and every victory he experiences. At times, it made me laugh to remember the way child literally thinks spending long hours in church. It made my eyes well when the young Antwone realizes he is being returned to Child Services leaving the only people he's known (albeit dysfunctional). It filled me with such joy for him once he finally discovers his family. Like other reviewers, I had to keep reminding myself this is a true story.

Finding Fish shows how fragile yet strong the human spirit can be. It is by the grace of God that Mr. Fisher is able to tell the world his story. Excellent Read!

It would truly be a pleasure to meet Mr. Fisher in person.

Book Review: One of the Best Books I've Ever Read
Summary: 5 Stars

Finding Fish is a spellbinding, honestly written true story of a boy growing up with all kinds of adversity. Most of it came from his cruel foster mother who inflicted physical and verbal abuse on him. Reading some of the things she did made me wonder how someone could be so cruel to a child. I really felt for Antwone as I read this book. All he wanted was love and acceptance, but he never found it in his foster mother.

Antwone has a deep inner strength that even as a child allowed him to withstand the torment he faced. I doubt that I would have survived the way he did if I had had his experiences.

I plan to buy this book, reread it, and make it part of my library. This book moved me like no other book I've ever read.

Book Review: Really Insightful
Summary: 5 Stars

I am from Cleveland, too. I grew up in the foster care system in Cleveland, too. I was on an National Public Radio (NPR) talkshow with Antowne recently and found him to be genuine and wise about his experiences. In fact, I suspect that he and I had some of the same caseworkers in Cleveland.

I too wrote books about my experience in foster care. I am going to suggest that you read my books as well: Kids Who Outwit Adults, God Is In The Kitchen and Other Everyday Miracles and In Whose Best Interest. BTW, I saw where another reviewer recommended my books. I am grateful for that, but I disagree with his assessment of Finding Fish, which is a great book.

Book Review: OUTSTANDING !!!!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted to give this book ten starts but five was the limit! A co-worker gave it to me and told me she thought I would enjoy it. She was wrong! I loved it! Each page sent me deep and deeper in love with young "Twonny". I found myself lost in his childhoold and his constant struggle to find love in himself and in family. I cringed, I laughed, I even went as far as to cry as I rode the "G" train into work each morning. I recommemd you read this book and committ to reading it until you reach the last page.

I sing praises to Antwone Quenton Fisher the writer and the warrior who stopped at nothing to find life and love.
