Book Reviews of Fearless Fourteen

Book Review: WHAAAT IS THE PROBLEM???
Summary: 5 Stars

Why so many bad reviews?? I was apprehensive about this latest Plum novel after reading all the naysayers comments....but frankly, I don't know what they expect.
What you have here is vintage Stephanie Plum, with all of the ridiculous ingredients that her adventures encompass. Silly, bumbling bad guys; kidnappings; a little suspense and lots of laughs. Grandma Mazur is as hilarious as usual; the only one missing here is Vinny, who is out of town...and frankly, he's not necessary anyway. Yes, certainly, all of these novels have the same type of plot. If you're looking for that level of originality, you should probably find a new series. If you're looking for something to make you laugh out loud....you've got it.
My one criticism remains, however, and clearly doesn't matter; I would like to see a little more ethnic diversity in these stories. Somewhere, somehow, she could throw in a character that is more representative of America and the Evanovich fanbase at large....something other than the embarrassingly stereotypical Lula. How about it, Ms. Evanovich?

Other than that, to me this is what I was looking forward to (the laughter) and what I've come to expect. Any novel that makes me laugh out loud is hard to be upset over or overly critical about. Happy reading!!

Book Review: I don't get it ...
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't understand the reasons behind all the bad reviews this latest Evanovich book has received. I thought it was as good as any of the previous thirteen. People complain that the characters they love aren't there? I read and laughed "out loud" at Grandma Mazur's antics. I thought Mooner and the new character psychic Gary were also funny in Evanovich's inimitable way. I wasn't particularly offended or offput by Lulu tricking Tank into an engagement, just thought it was pure Lulu and nothing to get in a snit about. I also don't understand people being upset with the idea that Morelli could be Zook's father. It's been clear since book one that Morelli had a checkered past and anything was possible. What's the big deal? I also don't feel that that particular subplot got too much attention. As for the focus being more on Morelli and less on Ranger, well, it seems that situation varies from book to book. It could also be possible that like it or not, Evanovich is letting Stephanie mature to a certain extent and realize that Joe is where the future lies. I'm looking forward to book fifteen and seeing how it all plays out.

Book Review: Another piece of birthday cake
Summary: 5 Stars

When a friend first told me about this series, I was leery. I mean, how far can you carry one set of characters without it starting to feel trite and overused? Well, more than fourteen titles, evidently. I read the first eleven in two weeks and fell in love. This installment is no different.

When Morelli's distant cousin is jailed, Stephanie finds herself saddled with a teenaged computer nerd with more piercings than sense. With Lula planning her wedding, Joe working on gang killings and Ranger pressuring her into bodyguard work for an aging singer, she has her hands full. When the burg goes crazy looking for 9 million dollars of stolen money in Joe's backyard, things go from bad to worse and now the kid's mother has been kidnapped and toes start appearing in boxes tied to bricks.

With the same quirky humor that keeps me reading, Evanovich has done it again. I'm already looking forward to 15, whatever title it winds up with.

Book Review: Plum back on form
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the funniest Plum novel Janet Evanovich has written for a while.

This time, Stephanie is trying to arrest a petty thief called Loretta, but Loretta goes missing and Stephanie ends up having to babysit her teenage son Mario (Zook as he prefers to be called). Zook has the unfortunate habit of spray-painting everything in sight with graffiti, including Morelli's dog. He also infects Grandma Mazur with his passion for a computer game called Minionfire, and soon she and all her friends are playing it.

Meanwhile, Loretta's crazy brother Dom thinks that Morelli is the father of Zook, and he also thinks that there is nine million dollars buried under Morelli's house. There are many other delightful complications in Stephanie's life, and the book made me laugh all the way through. I was surprised to see so many negative reviews of this one, as I think it is the funniest book she has written in a long time.
