I'm a mother of a son, not a father, and I don't golf, but I loved this book! As a parent, it was a great story to read, and offered some wonderful life lessons. Andrew Shanley is a talented writer who truly opens his heart and soul to readers, making this a book with true universal appeal.
Summary of Fathers, Sons and Golf (Nova Audio Books)
Andrew Shanley, divorced dad of two adolescent boys, discovers one day that his sons seem to have a shaky sense of ethics. He thinks that teaching them golf, a game he'd grown up loving, will help address the problem. In the process of getting them hooked on the game, he finds himself getting to know his sons instead of just accepting and loving them. He also discovers the deep spiritual importance that golf holds in his life. Fathers, Sons & Golfis a deeply felt book, the impact of which is diminished only slightly by the author's own comparisons to books that are better and authors who are more profound.When Andrew Shanley realized that his sons, aged 10 and 13, were lacking the integrity and honesty he expected of them, he was shocked. He had believed they shared his values; now he struggled to find a way to teach them ethics before it was too late. Being a golfer with an enduring love of the game, Shanley decided that - in teaching his sons golf - he could effectively instruct them in what really matters - how to be men.
