Book Reviews of Fancy NancyBook Review: ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL!! Summary: 5 Stars
Since my first name is Nancy, I just had to buy this book. From the front cover, which is glittery and shimmery, to the final page which almost makes one tear up, this book is absolutely delightful!
My young grandchildren loved it and the 4 1/2 year old had it memorized in 2 days--of course we had read it probably 30 times!
I am an elementary reading teacher and have shared the book with grades K through 4th to the delight of the children.
It has wonderful vocabulary development and can be a jumping off point to a lesson in adjectives!
Enjoy--I have purchased FOUR of these books already!
Book Review: 5 Stars from a very unfancy guy Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely love this book. I am not fancy. My four girls are not fancy. But we adore this book. It is about a girl who has passion and wants to share it with the world. Go for it Nancy! Even when things don't go as planned, the family rallies around her and life goes on. This book is about much more than fanciness.
I love the illustrations. The image of the family making an "entrance" to the restaurant is a classic!
I admit that we tried a fancy excursion to the miniature golf course. I don't think the kids particularly liked their mom and dad all dressed up but we had a ball.
Book Review: LOVE this book!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this book for my niece (she's 3 1/2 years old). Even before reading it to her, I could see she was already captivated by the glittery, 'fancy' cover (the illustrations in this book are phenomenal!). She was excited before reading the book, but once I finished it, she was in love!! For the remainder of the night she repeatedly cried out 'again'! Needless to say, weeks later this continues to be her most favourite book (impressive considering her vast collection). I highly recommend this whimsical children's book to all and I look forward to purchasing other books from this author.
Book Review: Fantastic Summary: 5 Stars
Fancy Nancy books were recommended to us both by family and by readers of my blog. They are fantastic books to help children develop a more diverse vocabulary. In this the first of the Fancy Nancy Books, Nancy helps her family dress up fancy and they head out for a night on the town. But sometimes things do not go the way you expect. She does teach her family to be fancy, and they do go out, but Nancy has an accident and does not feel very fancy anymore. This is a wonderful little story, in an oversized picture book with fantastic illustrations. The book is as fancy as the person it features.
Book Review: Fancy Nancy Summary: 5 Stars
My three year old and one year old love these stories. I do too! Nancy is zany and silly and a little bit frivolous -- but I love the simple morality woven into each of O'Connor's books. Modern children's literature seems to be glutted with books about independent (disobedient) children who are applauded for the disrespectful way they treat parents and authority figures. Nancy makes mistakes -- but each story contains elements of repentance and forgiveness, and the over-arching theme of an everyday family's unconditional love for one another. Those are the values I want to teach!
