Ok, so I have at least a thousand cookbooks....how could I need any more? Well, I have drastically slowed down on which cookbooks I acquire, but this one is so gorgeously produced, and the recipes are so unusual, varied, and absolutely fantastic, that I not only own it (for which I am very grateful), but it has jumped to the very top of my 'I have to make these recipes- NOW' list....

The book is a family memory of heritage, living all over the world, and travels. The major sections have recipes arranged by country; Finland, Greece, Cyprus, South Africa, Italy, and the World.

From Findland we have things like 'Potato Pancakes' and 'Fresh Salmon, Dill', and 'Potato Soup'. And 'Finnish Meatballs with Allspice, Sour Cream, and Lingonberries'.

From Greece, all my favorites like Dolmades, Tzatziki, and Lemon and Oregano Chicken. I absolutely can't wait to try the recipes that are new to me, like 'Shrimp with Lemon, Peri-Peri, Garlic, and Feta', 'Lamb and Tomato with Orzo', 'Stuffed Eggplants', 'Baked Lima Beans with Onions, Tomatoes, and Parsley', and 'Baklava with Nuts and Dried Apricots'.

I have never seen so many recipes from Cyprus before- and really want to try this authentic version of 'Spanakopita', 'Cypriot Baked Lamb and Potatoes with Cumin and Tomatoes', and 'Souvlaki'. Oh, and 'Fried Potatoes and Artichoke Bottoms', and 'Black-Eyed Peas with Spinach' that will replace my old, tired New Year's dish.

I was surprised to find so many 'Southern US' recipes, done a bit differently, in the South Africa section, and then of course should not have been surprised since so many of the best southern cooks in early US history were from Africa. But I found 'Fried Chicken', 'Barbecued Spare Ribs', and 'Carrot Cake'. And new that I must try this summer was 'Barbecued Beef Fillet with Sweet Potatoes and Grilled Mushrooms' and 'Berry Cheesecake'.

From Italy the author has learned many of the recipes at the side of her Italian mother-in-law. I am now craving 'Arugula, Parmesan, and Pomegranate Salad with Balsamic Vinegar', 'Fried Mozzarella and Anchovey filled Zucchini Flowers with Sage Leaves', 'Risotto with Artichokes and Italian Sausage','Baked Amaretti with Vin Santo Plums with Mascarpone Cream', and 'Ricotta Tart with Chocolate Crust'.

And then there are recipes from travels, such as 'Thai Chicken Soup with Coconut Milk, Lime, and Cilantro', and 'Lentils, Rice, and Red Onion Salad'.

The photographs are gorgeous, and the binding is beautiful. My only minor complaints are that the font size was too small for my eyes, and an odd script is used for the section names at the bottom of the page that is likewise difficult to read. But this beautiful book is sure to be the new family favorite at my house!
