Book Review: Learn about Fairies and Cicely Mary Barker

This is indeed a fun and beautiful book for any fairy lover. My 5 year old daughter and I were charmed by reading and finding the secrets inside. I personally enjoyed it much more than I thought I would at first glance as it looked pretty much like a novelity book. It turned out to be a very good read and the watercolors and other art are gorgeous.
I was delighted to find that it is a journal of Cicely Mary Barker the famous illustrator and poetry of a certain type of fairy. While this is may or may not be a totally accurate slice of a few months of Barker's life it does give a good taste of what she was like as a woman and what the year 1923 held for her. So any fairy child reading this book will come away knowing a bit about the talented woman responsible for some of the most famous fairies--the FLOWER FAIRIES!
Fairyopolis is not really a pop-up book but it is filled with wonderful goodies glued inside the book that are educational as well as beautiful and charming. There is a map of Sussex, "A Field Guide to Fairies", "A Dictionary of Fairy Trees", an old-fashioned recipe for blackberry jam, a booklet of "Tales of Grateful and Helpful Fairies", and a contraption for seeing fairies in 3-D.
This would make a wonderful gift for any person who loves fairies especially little girls. Again...I really appreciate that the book was educational as well as fun. I believe it's also a good example for a young girl as to how to keep a creative and interesting journal and use it to pursue any dream she may have.
