Book Reviews of Exodus (Modern Classics)Book Review: Awesome! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a wonderful overview of the history of the Jewish nation's return to the land of Israel wrapped within a compelling novel about the creation and early years of the modern nation of Israel (book period covers app 1946 - 1951). The characters are well developed (with backgrounds that are used to flesh out the history of the Jewish people throughout the Holy Land & Europe/Russia from app 1880 to 1946) and the story is compelling and rivetting eventhough it is very long (the back story alone on the Ben Canaan brothers is over 100 pages). Much of the historical parts of the book actually happened, but are used as character development for the fictional plot. One thing to note is that this book has an obvious pro-Jewish bias so for those of you who naively believe that Israel is the agressor in the 1948 (or later) Arab/Israeli wars, this isn't the book for you.
A great book for lovers of Middle Eastern/Israeli history and great stories!
Book Review: Great story for all times Summary: 5 Stars
This is a must read book! Although I loved it, it started slowly for me. I found the story of the detainee and the procuring of the ship slow, but after that the bravery and tenacity of the (to be) Israelis to be inspirational. Although growing up I use to hear gossip or quips about Jewish people, I had little to no experience with any Jews personally. This book has provided some insight as to who the Israeli people are. Even if the author was subjective (I'm not saying he was or wasn't) it is still a great story of and absolutely strong people. This book made me research many things it purported, which I was able to substantiate. After visiting New York, where I finally saw many orthodox Jews, it seems incredible that these people are the ancestors of such a brave fighting people. But then again their adherence to their religion and culture is affirmed and something I admire.
Book Review: A Very good read Summary: 5 Stars
This is most of the most fascinating books I have read. Being asian and with little knowledge of the plight of jews during the WW2( before reading this book ) I was pro arab. But this book made me rethink all of my thoughts onjews and the suffering that they have undergone.Leon Uris takes the reader thru the birth of Isreal as if the reader himself were a part of it.
Book Review: Excellent Novel Summary: 5 Stars
This is a powerful novel. You won't be able to put it down. Surely, the author is partisan, but isn't every author? The book is well worth reading. Tom Segev's "One Palestine, Complete" is a non-fictional account of the same topic.
