Book Reviews of Ex Libris: Confessions of a Common ReaderBook Review: The Joy of Book Fondling Beautifully Expressed Summary: 5 Stars
Anne Fadiman is clearly one of us! If you, too, are among those who proofread and correct everything from restaurant menus to outdoor advertising, you'll love Fadiman's essay "Inset a Carrot" (with corrections, of course). A few years ago while visiting Monterey, California, I found myself finishing John Steinbeck's Canary Row. Later, when I read Fadiman's essay "You Are There," I realized there are many others who have experienced the thrill of You-Are-There Reading. If you're a book fondler, or if you love words, you'll enjoy Anne Fadiman's Ex Libris -- gracefully written and intelligently witty.
Book Review: LOVE LOVE LOVE this book Summary: 5 Stars
I don't remember how I stumbled upon this little gem but I'm oh-so-happy I did. This book makes my list of all-time favorites and if you are a lover of words, of language, of the "sweet serenity of books" -- you will see yourself in these brilliantly written pages and add this book to your all-time favorites as well. I agree with the reviewer who said that if Ms. Fadiman lived in closer proximity she would be her new best friend. I may never meet Ms. Fadiman but her book is already my newest and cherished friend.
Book Review: lovely literate laughs for lovers of literature Summary: 5 Stars
This book is adorable! (And I've been enjoying seeing all the perfectly spelled reviews here!) I was only sorry it was so short. Every chapter made me wish I had the author for a friend. I almost cried with joy reading the description of the Fadiman family at the restaurant, horribly distracted from the food by misspellings-- I always thought we were the only ones. I was a big fan of her genial father Clifton, and I see the talent came down in the family. Anne, come to Paris!
Book Review: Ex Libris hits the mark Summary: 5 Stars
Ex Libris is an outstanding book for those who enjoy reading and the pleasures that a library offers the reader. The authors love of books and reading comes alive in every page as only a reader will appreciate. I sat in my reading chair and enjoyed sharing her insightful look at books and their impact on an individual. Easy to read, honest and delightful in that it shares her personal enjoyment with the reader. Worth the purchase as you will not be disappointed.
Book Review: You'll want to purchase many copies of this book Summary: 5 Stars
My friend loaned me Ex Libris for summer vacation with the warning that I would want my own copy after reading it. She was right. Within a week I ordered 8 copies, one for me and one for seven my bibliophile friends. This is a wonderful book filled with terrific insights about all of us readers, fantastic vocabulary (be sure to have a dictionary handy), and excellent recommendations. This is an perfect gift book for teachers, book club friends, and avid readers.
