Summary: 4 Stars

This book is well-written, easy to read, and contains a lot of valuable information for the person who would like to use homeopathic medicines at home. This is definitely one of the books that I would keep for future reference.

Book Review: Great Classic
Summary: 4 Stars

Great basic book on homeopathy! Good distiction between things you can take care of on your own and symptoms that would require more attention from a professional. Gives you basic concepts and practical applications.

Book Review: I wish they would have sent me the newer version..
Summary: 3 Stars

I am not mad at the book however I am mad at the time it took for my book to arrive also the fact that they sent me the wrong version. I am not sure if there is a difference but I imagine the newer version may have corrections and such. So I am a bit disappointed. I also wish the book was set up differently, I was looking for more like a dictionary and a bit more history. Also a bit more info on why and how. I am aware it will take a lot more research, I feel this book definitely did not answer my questions. I will work with this book for now until I find a better book on Homeopathic Meds...

Book Review: Quackery
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this as my first book on homeopathic medicine in order to learn more about it. My conclusion is that there is woefully inadequate evidence to support the theory.

If I were to claim to have a Toyota in my garage, you shouldn't be too surprised or demand extremely strong evidence in order to believe me. This is because there are clearly many people who do in fact have a Toyota in the garage. This is a very orinary claim.

On page 12 of Everybody's Guide, the author points out that "Most scientists believe that no medicine diluted more than 12c potency could have any biochemical effect, since it is improbable that any molecules of the original substance remain." This belief is based on basic prinicples of the very well developed fields of Biology and Chemistry.

If Homeopathic medicine did work in dilutions more than 12c, it would shatter some basic principles of Chemistry and Biology. Unlike religious leaders, scientists fantasize about making or proving a discovery that shatters currently accepted models. This type of discovery can clearly lead to a Nobel prize and world-wide fame in the scientific community.

In order to believe a claim that shatters currently accepted models of Biology and Chemistry, we need evidence of extraordinary quality. On page xiv in the preface, the author reports on a 1991 study by three Dutch professors. Of 107 trials, they found 22 studies that met their criteria for scientific quality. Of these, 15 showed that homeopathic medicines worked.

It is of course possible that these studies were somehow flawed or fraudulent, or that they lacked the statistical certainty to overthrow currently accepted science. As I said, we need evidence of extraordinary quality. I don't know what happened to the Dutch professors after 1991, but I haven't seen any Nobel prizes awarded!

Things that really exist develop and improve over time. Look how much science has advanced in the past 100 years. How much has Homeopathy advanced in the past 180 years? Not much as far as I can tell.

Save your money on Homeopatyic books and medicines. Eat well, get plenty of excercise and sleep, and go to a real doctor when you have a medical problem.
