Book Review: Sophmore Swoon

It would be incredibly hard to follow up "It's Not About The Bike" and Every Second Counts falls into that trap. The trap that when one book is amazing and compelling, the follow up cannot live up to the original.
Although Lance Armstrong is an amazing athlete and a very interesting character, this does not stir the imagination like his first book. The "evil" characters are not as definable (Cofidis, cancer, etc.) Although I do feel that with his troubles with his marriage that was interesting.
I wish he would have been more open with his feelings about his marriage. That was what made his first so completely enveloping, Armstrong's seemingly openess. That he was absolutely open and honest about the cancer, his love and his profession.
Every Second Counts is a good book...just not a great one.
Book Review: A lot rehashed from previous book

If you are looking for exhaustive autobiographical coverage of Lance Armstrong, then you may choose to read this book, because it does offer insight into the life and times of Lance after the demise of his marriage. Much of the material, however, is rehashed from the previous book, which I read only the day before this one; as a result, much of the material felt very repetitive. My money was better spent on "23 days in July" and "Lance Armstrong's War..."Book Review: Pretty Good

Of course not as good as Lance Armstrong's first book. In book 2 Lance tells about trying to win the Tour de France a second time and it is a good book and pretty interesting read. It is a lot like the first one; cataloging different preparations, struggles and pressures that he goes through to win again and again. This book is about Lance Armstrong winning the Tour de France seven times. This book was disappointing. It probably wouldn't have been if I hadn't read his first book, It's Not About the Bike. It's Not About the Bike was a great book and I loved it, but Every Second Counts is repetitive and the first half is basically the second half of It's Not About the Bike. Lance Armstrong is a smart, brave and in my opinion, a cool guy, but this book doesn't show that. Lance gets cancer and then goes on to win the Tour de France seven times. This is an amazing feat, but the descriptions of all seven Tours are very similar: Train hard, go to the Tour, win, and celebrate.
I do not recommend Every Second Counts, but I recommend his first book. For the reasons stated. It's repetitive, boring, and not exciting. The same thing could be mentioned more than once. For example, survivorship is stated in the book several times. Frankly, this book wasn't hard to put down, but hard to pick up. A reason that it's boring is that there were no surprises or cliffhangers. This book didn't live up to my expectations, nor will it yours.
