Book Reviews of Everest : Mountain Without MercyBook Review: A must-have for Everest junkies Summary: 5 Stars
If you've read "Into Thin Air" or any of the multitude of books written about the 1996 Everest disaster, you must read this. It includes a poignant, but objective account that, because of the photos, puts you into that place at that time. The photos are beautiful and I loved seeing the places I read about: the Western Cwm, the Khumbu Icefall (and its array of seracs and crevasses), the South Summit ridge and the Hillary Step. It also includes background on the Nepalese culture and people, which is interesting and engaging.
Book Review: My fiance and I had a TV interview with David Breashears. Summary: 5 Stars
My fiance and I recently got engaged on top of Mt. Kilimanjaro and were given the chance to meet David Breashears in a TV interview last June 12, 1999 in San Diego. He is an incredible man and to have helped write this book is truelly amazing. We are buying it as we speak and look forward to it's contents. We too have a love for adventure and the unknown and will try to attempt base camp of Everest next summer. Thanks, David for helping us in our endeavors. Sincerely, Rex and Kimberly in San Diego, CA.
Book Review: Buy your own copy! It's a keepsake. Summary: 5 Stars
I borrowed this book from a coworker and I've had it so long, I'm just giving it back to buy my own. The editorial is very compelling, and loaded with sidebars. I gave this book a "9" rating, because it's hard to read in bed. : ) . I've read Into Thin Air by Krakauer, The Climb by Boukreev, about 150 pages of this book, and this weekend I'm going to see the IMAX film on Everest. Can't wait! (Of course, my feet are firmly planted at sea level!!)
Book Review: This Story Just Does Not Go Away... Summary: 5 Stars
I forget you how many years ago its been since this event took place. But last month I saw the story told yet again in a national "adventure" magazine.
Pros: 1. The pictures are terrific, so the book makes a great coffee table piece. 2. The book is very informative while being a pretty easy read. 3. The side bars are really good. They are very informative and yet concise and to the point.
Cons: None
Book Review: Fantastic book! Summary: 5 Stars
Whether you are interested in mountain climbing, science, medicine, history, or anthropology you will find this a great book. I was stunned by the beauty of the pictures and the fine quality of the book, especially at this price. It easily holds its own with fifty and sixty dollar "coffee table" books. Even my children enjoyed looking at the many photographs and learning right along with me. This is terrific!
