Book Reviews of EscapeBook Review: A page turner Summary: 5 Stars
I generally don't like non-fiction, but I could not put this down. It is a fascinating look inside one of the most secretive and destructive cults in America, and by the end you find yourself wondering how this group manages to exist and evade the law. Her journey from believing in her religion, to seeing it for what it truly is, is fascinating. Her decision to escape is inspirational and you only wish more people in that community were lucky enough to have this same chance at a life on the outside. One of my favorite books of the year
Book Review: A Very Brave Woman Summary: 5 Stars
While autobiographies of apostates should be read with some trepidation, I found Carolyn Jessop's account of her life inside the FLDS community to be very balanced and believable. Her harrowing tale highlights the fact that plural marriage is a breeding ground for violence because of the intense competition within families for scarce resources, including not only material goods, such as food, shelter, and clothing, but more spiritually nourishing requirements such as parental love, a feeling of safety, and individuation.
Book Review: Thanks for writing this book Summary: 5 Stars
1. I had no particular interest in this book or subject matter, but thought it looked semi-interesting and thus decided to check it out. Man, was I shocked, educated about things hitherto unknown to me and inspired by the true grit and determination of the author to live; for herself and children. The book is very well written, easy to read and extremely engaging.
2. Thanks to the author for bringing for her story; a no small feat which all who read this book will understand. Well done.
Book Review: ESCAPE gives the reader just that, an ESCAPE Summary: 5 Stars
Carolyn Jessop's journey as outlined in ESCAPE is a powerful reminder of how some always have it worse off than us. Imagine having to deal with someone trying to control every aspect of your life, including your body, and you are powerless to stop it. She gives us her story so that we can break this tragic cycle that is unfortunate commonplace in this world. ESCAPE: a testament of courage and the will to survive against all odds.
Book Review: Escape Summary: 5 Stars
An amazing story of one woman's journey to freedom and self-expression. I could not put the book down and her story haunts me - as do all the stories from women involved in polygamy. The book is well written and the story of Carolyn Jessop's strength and courage is inspiring. More should be known about these women who have endured so much and have found the patience and perseverance to help others. They should be applauded.
