Book Reviews of EscapeBook Review: Admirable for her sense of autonomy- despite living in an oppressed society. Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very easy read. I read it in 3 days. She tells the story pretty matter-of-fact, which somehow surprises me, based on where she's come from. After watching women with vacuous eyes talk to media after the FLDS raid, it seems it's impossible to grow up in such a society and not become just a meek drone, if you're a woman.
Somehow, Carolyn managed to keep her sense of individuality throughout her life. Even though it took her many years to leave an abusive, controlling, and sheltered society, I am amazed at how street smart she is. She has a good sense of humor through it, too.
I really like her use of words- she's a great writer.
Book Review: Heart Wrenching and Inspiring Summary: 5 Stars
There are many positive reviews of Escape, so I will try to keep mine brief.
Carolyns' story gripped me like no fiction ever could. Her struggles, sorrow and determination are a testament to the power of the human spirit. This book is a real eye opener, it is unbelievable that there are still countless women willingly going through such mistreatment in our own country! The author of this book is a brave, brave woman, and you owe it to yourself to experience her incomprehensible journey, which will surely evoke compassion from even the most skeptical of readers.

Book Review: Mouth Hanging Open Summary: 5 Stars
I listened to this in the car and found myself driving around with my mouth hanging open. This story is one woman's account of living in a polygamist marriage in the FLDS. It amazes me to think that a religion, whose purpose is to worship a higher power, can commit such purposeless cruelty in the name of God.
From a sensationalist perspective, the book was amazing. It was a riveting story that kept my attention from start to end. But it is also a very intense story.
Book Review: Couldn't put it down... Summary: 5 Stars
This book is great all around. An amazing real life-survivor story. It gives hope to those going through any struggles that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I just bought the sequel "Triumph" and am so far equally impressed. I would recommend this book to anyone!
