Book Reviews of Energy AnatomyBook Review: Gritty style, hard hitting content--it works. Summary: 5 Stars
In university I studied engineering. I like to explore many things but at the end the day, especially when it comes to self help, I'm looking for things that work. These CDs from Caroline Myss are working for me.Here's what I found very unique about Caroline's material: she makes many concepts, such as Chakras, accessible for me. Up to know I've seen them as "could be interesting but seems like new age babble." From what Caroline says in the CDs, that's how she saw all of this stuff too, until some things happened in her life and she ended up with a new point of view. Key point here: she isn't a woo-woo "stars and magic" person. She's blunt and practical. At one point she says something like this "I want to give you the science of Chakras...I like explaining these things like machines, so you see that this is real, not just made up stuff." By bringing this into practical, almost scientific terms, it's accessible to me. On tape 6, some of what she talks about was a bit out there for me, but hey, that's alright. The core of the content is very practical and can be experienced day to day. Caroline has interesting things to say about spirituality and religion as well. She comes off as a very spiritual person, but there didn't seem to be a given religion behind that. Interesting. Several people have commented on Caroline's style. Here's my take. Caroline is blunt and direct. She isn't warm and fuzzy. She *is* funny. She *is* a great speaker. She *is* very bright and good at quickly building to "the point." She isn't nurturing. I'm at a point where I'm really ready to take action, and ready to make some changes. I was taken aback a few times through the CDs, but that's OK. I'm ready to take some emotional bruises in order to move forward. I think it's worth it. I'm tired of finishing interesting self-help books, putting them down, and then finding that nothing in my life is different. I'm seeing lots of changes already from the way that Caroline's CDs are challenging me. I've also seen some comments that Caroline seems overly confident in herself. I can see where that impression may come from. Here's the thing--I don't see her strength and confidence coming out of pride or need for recognition. I think it comes from having a very solid basis in what she says, and also in being very aligned in her work as a teacher. She has important information to get across. Is everything she says 100% right? Who knows? You will get an undiluted point of view on how things work though.
Book Review: A Great Roadmap for the Path Summary: 5 Stars
I highly recommend both the Energy Anatomy and Advanced Energy Anatomy lecture series. I will provide this same commentary for both series.
In Energy Anatomy, Caroline reviews the seven chakras and describes our development as we progress thru them. This is content that is presented in her book Anatomy of the Spirit. I can see parallels between this content and adult development theory. As a coach this information is helpful context and provides a framework in working with my clients.
In this lecture series, she goes beyond the Anatomy of the Spirit book to discuss practical ways to apply the information she presents, including suggestions on how to think about illness and spiritual crisis.
In Advanced Energy Anatomy, she continues and expands the conversation to help us understand how to be "mystics without monasteries". She also describes the 8th and 9th chakras, which are rarely discussed and are consistent with the I AM teachings. She provides a wonderful transition from our current thinking on religion and spirituality to the traditional works in Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism and Christianity. Her comments are supported by the work of the scholars who are working on the Nag Hamadi, Dead Sea Scrolls and other lost gospels. She provides broader context for many religious traditions and her interpretations make sense. She has a PhD in Theology from which she draws much of her content, and also integrates her personal experience and stories of others she has worked with as a medical intuitive.
She is feisty and humble, wise, passionate and entertaining. I enjoy her books and I especially enjoy her audio recordings. I hope you enjoy them as well!
Book Review: Energizing and Enlightening Summary: 5 Stars
If you are feeling open and you'd like to "wake-up" today - I HIGHLY recommend this audiobook. You can thank Caroline Myss for her insight into the non-material presence in this life and with shining wisdom, bringing it quickly to the material world. This is a wonderful spiritual and scientific lecture series, not to mention a very exciting journey to listen to (even if you never enact her beliefs into your life). It has helped me profoundly with balancing my energy and I did not have to be a mystic to get it. She is a very good teacher.
This audio book is easily listened to in 9 hours, while driving in rush hour traffic on your way to work, but be forewarned that Caroline Myss is not joking around when she embodies the teacher's archetype. What was once a mundane rush hour drive will turn into a vibrant interaction of the energy paradigm. She will teach you and if you are at all a skeptic like I was (esp. about Chakras and unseen mysteries), thinking that you've got the world materialistically figured out, and your reality beat, then you are in for a sharp and exciting surprise. You may find yourself sliding down the rabbit hole of "Who am I? and "Why am I doing this?" and "What is the purpose of my life?" and "Where am I, now?"
These types of awareness-based questions are implied throughout her tales and experiences with anatomy of our body's energy systems. Thankfully, with insight, clarity and precision, Dr. Myss explains exactly what we are made of and it is very reassuring to know that when we do start to ask these questions of a deeper nature, there are guides like Caroline Myss who are brave enough to teach the stuff.
Book Review: At home therapy Summary: 5 Stars
If you think that you might benefit from "therapy", listen to this program. A large part of the effort of therapy is getting an individual to open to themselves, to see themselves as they really are, as a precursor to making changes in their life. Caroline Myss' recordings of "Energy Anatomy" and "Advanced Energy Anatomy" open the door to that introspection, giving you a framework in which to see your past life, and present actions. True, you may not agree with everything she says. But I guarantee you will find yourself nodding in agreement over and over again, at the insightful ways she presents the workings of human minds and emotions. And you will find Caroline Myss offering you answers to many of the questions you've asked yourself ("Why do I do this?" "Why did I do that?") over the years. I'm not recommending you forego therapy, if you really need it. Professional therapy can be very valuable. But I am saying that Caroline's recordings are a terrific way of getting in touch with yourself, and seeing yourself clearly (maybe for the first time), regardless of whether you want to pursue professional counseling, or not. And because (as Caroline says) the mind and emotions are prime determinants of the health of the body, this is an excellent series for anyone interested in taking good care of their body, and creating the best health possible for a vibrant and very happy life. "Energy Anatomy" offers a new way of looking at yourself, at others, and at the world around you, and this program may be the best thing you try this year.
Book Review: Great teaching on energy and healing Summary: 5 Stars
I finished listening to the Energy Anatomy on tape. Caroline Myess did a great job sharing her knowledge of energy anatomy. She said "your spiritual structure is as detailed as physical structure" so she goes into the chakras and describes our personal development from external power to internal power from an energy point of view. She says "Your first challenge in evolving spirituality is to develop a sense of will that allows you to maintain yourself while being with a group of people and not compromising yourself in order to stay with that group"
Energy Anatomy is a wonderful introduction into the science of energy and healing. It helps me continue my healing studies with a better understanding of energy.
