Book Reviews of Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants

Book Review: Excellent Book! Great knowledge database
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is absolutely incredible. I would reccomend this book for anyone starting or even someone like me who has tried growing plants and knows a little about them.

The sections on propogation and plant reproduction is absolutely incredible and showed me so much about the processes that go on there.

The in depth detail of the cycles that plants use are great too. Even though Biology is still fresh in my mind, I learned things that I found very interesting that I did not know before on those cycles.

I can't stand books that say that they're a plant book, but spend 9/10ths of the book explaining how to plant plants and what not, and spend 1/10th or two to five pages on actual plants and what their requirements are!

This book achieves a perfect balance between these two things, and about half of the book is crammed with individual, and families of, plants that puts an emphasis on scientific names and conditions required to keep the plant well.

I could go on and on about this book, but all summed up, I would have to say:
BUY THIS BOOK!!!

I highly reccomend it, and you won't regret it.

Book Review: Excellent 1st Book on Aquarium Plants
Summary: 5 Stars

I would definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for general information about aquarium plants. It covers the basic in a clear, consise way, using images whenever possible to illustrate what is being explained. The book' structure is logical and simple to follow, and pretty much anything you need to know to get started is covered.

The only minor complaint I might have is on the aquascaping chapter. The author uses drawings to explain various projects, where high-quality pictures would have been preferable, or, even better, both. Not a big deal at all, but its just that the real impact of aquascaping cannot be conveyed adequately through drawings in my opinion. And so it's hard to foresee how the author's suggested scapes would look in reality.

Highly recommended for beginners.

Book Review: Everything you could ever want to know about aquarium plants
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved this book! It has very in-depth information. I've always had problems with algae in my planted aquarium and this book explains several reasons why this occurs and how to prevent it. It explains, in detail, nutrient requirements, lighting options, ways that fish and invertebrates interact with plants, and which plants are best for beginners. It explains complicated information with clear diagrams. Finally, there is a great list of plants with photos and info.

The only negative thing I can say is that this book is probably not the best for someone who only wants one or two plants in their aquarium and is looking for a simple introduction. This book isn't very simple, but it does offer clear explanations of many topics relating to growing plants in your aquarium.

Book Review: Comprehensive and practical
Summary: 5 Stars

After looking at other aquarium plant books, this one definitely stands out. It is better organized and easier to refer to than other books. When I want to look up a specific plant, all I have to do is flip towards the back of the book, look at the large and colorful plant photos and the succinct, yet complete description on its care and requirements. The book also discusses important topics like substrates, fertilizers, lighting, plant diseases, appropriate fish etc....The author even presents different layouts of tanks for those needing ideas for designs and types of live planted tank (cold water plants, warm water plants, tanks represented by region (Asia, South America etc...). On the whole, this book an excellent resource.

Book Review: good for beginers; but lacks sustanince for more advanced
Summary: 5 Stars

best aquarium planted book i know of for beginers! adresses many important topics in clear, easy to understand fasion. it also has a great varaity of common aquatic plants as well as terestrial plants sold as aquarium plants- these usualy parish in aquariums. it is published in the united kingdom so many things are slightly differant (substrate and lighting in perticular) than in the US and canada; however, this is easy to over come and dosnt take away at all from the book.

although great for beginers, it dosnt realy have enough meat to satisfy the needs of advanced aquatic gardeners. the plant selection, although vary good lacks less common and hard-to-find plants.
