Book Review: Emotional Intelligence: Why it can matter more than IQ
Summary: 5 Stars
I just reread this book. Goleman argues that our current view of intelligence is narrow and limited. He states that emotions play a crucial role in our ability to think clearly and perform effectively. The prefrontal cortex is the region of brain responsible for working memory. The signals from amygdala where emotions emerge can disrupt the functioning of prefrontal lobe. In a sense, we have two brains: rational and emotional. The performance of rational brain is influenced by emotional brain. Goleman believes that emotional literacy programs should be a part of school curriculum. He provides evidence that emotional literacy enhances academic achievement and school performance. I fully agree with Goleman that emotional intelligence plays a significant role in academic and non-academic world.
