Book Reviews of Emergency: This Book Will Save Your Life

Book Review: It's About The Journey (Stupid)
Summary: 5 Stars

We live in turmoilous times. After 9/11 , Katrina, the Patriot Act, and the financial meltdown the urge to grab your bug-out bag and head to a Caribbean island becomes a temptation too hard to resist. Neil Strauss came to this conclusion and then wrote "Emergency:This Book Will Save Your Life" to describe his journey. He details the false starts, the truly weird characters, the planning (maybe even scheming) it took to create an escape plan, in order to protect himself and survive. This is his journey. It's fascinating, humorous, and definitely interesting. What it's not is a "How To" book. There are plenty of survival manuals out there, but this book is something else - something more. If you read "The Game", you'll realize that he tells his story about how he goes through the process. Part of it will detail the skills he develops, but the story is much more than that. It's about the whole journey and what it takes to get there. It's the same with this book. He puts things into context so you understand what he's thinking. This means the book in a lot of ways is a cautionary tail just like The Game (remember suicidal Mystery and the RSD wackos?). But the book will open your eyes to a world most of us know nothing about. This is a world of Survivalists, secret bank accounts, second passports, goats, and firearms. Use the information if you wish, but at least you'll know where to start to get the skills and the knowledge if you decide to take the journey.

Book Review: Loved it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been interested in the subject of this book for a long time and read a lot of books on the subject. I have also been a Pickup Artist for a few years now. When I saw that Neil Strauss had written a book on the subject I HAD to have it. As soon as I got it I sat in my reading chair and went to work on it. When I came to the last page of the book I was really happy I had bought it.

Don't buy this book expecting it to be a how to. It isn't. It is written just like The Game. If you read carefully you will pickup some pointers and some direction. However, it is a story not a manual. Strauss tells a story that starts the night of the party for the launch of The Game. As he watches the destruction and mayhem caused by Katrina he realizes that in the event of an emergency he would be near useless and would not be able to take care of himself or his loved ones. So begins his next journey of self discovery and self improvement. Along the way he meets some very colorful characters, goes on some wacky adventures, and ultimately comes out the other side a changed man that can really take care of himself and his loved ones.

If you liked reading The Game, you will love this book. The first half of the book is kind of slow. As soon as you hit the halfway mark it starts to pickup the pace and get exciting. It's rare that I want to read a book twice, but as soon as I finished Emergency I wanted to read it all over again.

Book Review: Exiting, Captivating, Excellent!
Summary: 5 Stars

Like in "The Game", in his new book "Emergency" Neil takes us to a different reality that most of us are unaware of. This time Strauss immerses himself in a community which interest and obsession is to be prepared for the next world crisis.
History repeats itself, and it is just a matter of time until the world we live in falls into chaos again; when we face this challenges, only the best prepared will survive.

While the content of "The Game" differs from that of "Emergency", both books create a similar effect in terms of making the reader reevaluate what he thought he knew about the subject. Ideas and behaviors that initially appear to be extremist, illogical and hard to believe become clear, rational, and necessary.

Once Again, Strauss' efforts result in a book or guide that offers an easier start for those who want to follow his steps. In the case of this new launch, his determination to be prepared for the next crisis will help you learn how to survive the worst that this world has to offer. Thanks Neil!

The book itself is very interesting and captivating. Neil's particular story and his entertaining way of telling it will keep you thrilled from start to finish.
Whether you are looking for an escape plan for when everything you know falls into chaos, or just entertaining and exiting reading, I strongly recommend getting "Emergency".

Book Review: Survival of the Preparest
Summary: 5 Stars

While all survival books pertain mainly to soldiers, campers, hikers or long-distance travelers, I find this book to meet the needs of most average, urban people in case of major catastrophe. It is a how-to guide to planning, preparation, execution and personal conscientiousness for surviving real contingencies.
This book is genuinely down to earth, original, and realistic. The - somehow controversial- idea of "escaping America" is a new concept to many people, yet relevant due to contemporary circumstances such as 9/11, Iraq war, general hatred of American around the world, Catherina, North Korea, Iran and the Economic meltdown. It is not paranoia! It is a survival instinct.
With his witticism and his funny interpretations, Neil laid-out many interesting example, stories and funny situations ("... since I'm a small person with little fists and a quiet voice, fleeing offers my best option..." )
Moreover, the book will enormously widen the reader's DHV and informal background helping a lot when trying to socialize. Neil teaches many day-to-day relevant information that can be used as a conversation material. While exploring all survival options, Neil got to the very source to bring the most up-to-date, true information on anything from nationalities, traveling, and politics to using guns, foreign bank accounts and bikes!

Book Review: What will you do when WSHTF?
Summary: 5 Stars

Truth can be stranger than fiction, and that's the case in Emergency.

Neil Strauss wonders what he would do if the world as we know it failed to function as it does currently. What would he do if an event the magnitude of 9/11 or Katrina took place in his hometown? No more electricity, iPods, takeout food or Seinfeld reruns.

The book begins with him as a typical "city boy", knowing nothing about survival. In similar fashion to The Game he seeks out the best of the best to learn the skills he feels he needs to survive. And also similar to The Game he takes all this knowledge and moves beyond it, creating his own interpretations.

At times while reading this book I was tempted with ideas ranging from calling my financial planner to see about moving my money to something more secure to thoughts of leaving the country. Other times I was laughing hysterically.

This was one of those books that I just couldn't put down. Within 24 hours of purchase I had read all 418 pages. It was entertaining, it made me laugh and it made me think.

Highly recommended to any American living in 2009.
