Book Reviews of Edie: American GirlBook Review: Stein shows us the brutal truth of American life. Summary: 5 Stars
The story of Edie Sedgwick is a refreshing eye-opener of the reality that, to the outside world, the ideal American family is not so ideal on the inside. With well-written honesty, Stein guides us through a life that was inspiring, fast-paced, short-lived and yet too amazing to be forgotten thirty years later. Stein brings to us a sense of how we want to see, or do see a piece of ourselves in Edie. A work of art in sea of confusion and change, we now know why she is remembered as an icon rather that an addict.
Book Review: Ciao Edie Baby Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book when it first came out and still have my tattered, dogeared copy. It is the breathless story of the poor little rich girl who became lost in the fabulous swirl of Warhol's 60's. On the outside, she was Edie, the Youth Quaker, on the inside she was a tragically lost girl who descended into the Stygian depths of fame, drugs, anorexia and tragedy. Each time I read this book, I kept wishing it could have been different somehow, that it could have a happy ending. A must read!
Book Review: BEAUTY AND DECAY Summary: 5 Stars
For an all too brief space of time Edie Sedgwick was the bright light of Andy Warhols' insular world of self proclaimed superstars.Beautiful, wealthy and emotionally troubled, her life of excitement and excess withered rapidly into debt, drug abuse and isolation. Discarded by the social glitterati when her instability became increasingly difficult to ignore, Edies' position as the girl of last year and eventual unremarked death stand as a scathing indictment of the fickleness of fame
Book Review: Edie in the Round Summary: 5 Stars
A truely original way to write a biography. The author interviewed many of the people who knew Edie. I watched Caio Manhattan at the same time. The book really helped explain what was going on behind the scenes in the movie. The best thing about this book is the photographs. I read "In My Blood" by John Sedgwick, Edie's cousin, at the same time and found myself going back and forth from his narratives to look at the photographs in Edie. They make good companion volumes.
Book Review: READ THIS! Summary: 5 Stars
Edie is a book that never fails to astonish. Although much of the book is about Warhol's Factory and ALL the people surrounding it, Edie does tend to be a centre character, providing the base for the book, much like in real life...She was a fixture of the factory, a piece of art in herself. Great photographs, excellent anecdotes (missing couch from moving van - where is it now?) You will never forget the self-destructive beauty that was EDIE!
