Book Review: Once Again Harry Bosch Goes into the Cold
Summary: 5 Stars
Once again Los Angeles Police Detective Harry Bosch is drawn to one of those cold cases. This time it's a case from the early '90s, the disappearance of a young woman named Marie Gesto he was unable to solve. The case has haunted him through the years and he's even gotten in a bit of trouble a time or two for revisiting his main suspect, a guy who's a product of money, someone who can buy his way out of any trouble that may come his way.
However, it appears that Harry may have been wrong all these years, because now an ambitious prosecutor has offered a creep named Reynard Watts a deal in a high profile case and as part of the plea bargain Waits has copped to murdering Marie. Harry is understandably upset, because Watts is somebody he never looked too seriously at. He fells a bit guilty too when he finds out he'd had Watts back then, but he let him go. Full of regret and rage, he joins the team that goes into the wood with Watts to find the body.
The scene in the woods will have you on the edge of your chair, actually most of the book will have you biting your nails, as Harry plays along with a sadistic killer to get the information he wants. The chills just never stop and even though one would think we know Harry Bosch, Mr. Connolly keeps finding new ways to keep us interested and caring for the character. And it goes without saying that the ending will have a surprise or too. This is just an outstanding story, but that should come as no surprise to anybody who has read Michael Connelly before.
