Book Reviews of Eating For LifeBook Review: Makes Body-for-Life much more tolerable! Summary: 5 Stars
When you love food, it's hard to look at the list of allowed foods in the Body-for-Life book and turn them into something that you will truly enjoy. For that reason, you often will find yourself living for the "free day" at the end of the week. This book has a collection of recipies that allow the reader to return to enjoying food during the week while also eating meals that are nutritionally balanced. My only qualm with this book is that Phillips spends a lot of time taking low-blow shots at the later Dr. Atkins. Atkins can work for a lot of people who only want to lose weight. Phillips has a program that stresses actually getting into great physical shape as well. He doesn't need to get defensive about it, because it simply works. It's not a scheme, not a new scientific revolution -- just the simple truth. You'll know it's true if you look at a lot of other nutritional programs that are very similar. Anyway, without further digression, the book is a great value for the cost, and the recipies all look great. You should never find yourself bored.
Book Review: Excellent recipes for single guys (or girls). Summary: 5 Stars
First, I am not a Body for Life participant, nor was I looking for a good diet book when I found this book.
This book is one of the best I've ever seen for putting together simple, healthy meals. The meals require very little prep time (always nice if time is limited). It is organized exceptionally well. Meals are seperated into Dinners, Breakfasts, Lunches, Deserts, Midmeals, and Shakes. All recipes have pictures (I love pictues-may be personal preference though). All recipes clearly list the ingredients needed, none of which require an extra trip to a specialty store. All directions are clear, and are written with time taken into consideration; directions are written such that all time is consumed and you know when to start on part of the meal when another part is marinating, baking, etc.
I have not read the dieting info in the book, and probably won't. No comment there.
If you want a cook book with simple recipes, simple but appealing ingredients, quick prep times, and clear directions, this book is for you....5 stars.
Book Review: Recipes are excellent for those suffering with hypoglycemia Summary: 5 Stars
I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and recently with hypoglycemia. My dietician has me on a special way to eat. Small meals every two and a half hours. I needed some help in finding recipes that are low in sugar and would complement the protein to carb ratio that my dietician recommended. The Eating for Life was a miracle! The recipes gave me the guidance I needed in preparing meals for my hypoglycemia. My two most favorite meals are the Salmon with Spinach & mushrooms & sweet potato and also the shrimp scampi. This is not a diet it is a lifestyle. The Eating for Life book has the place of honor in my kitchen on my cookbook stand. The recipes are easy and delicious. I began eating the recipes on October 19, 2004. I have lost 10lbs. I do exercise 5 days a week with cardio and weight training. I hope Mr. Phillips comes out with another cookbook. This is truly a way of life. I have more energy and do not crave carbs or sugars any more. I used to binge because of the hypoglycemia, but no more. I highly recommend this book.
Book Review: A MUST-HAVE cookbook for healthy eating! Summary: 5 Stars
I have just reached the desperation point in trying to create a healthy eating plan for myself. This book is everything I have been looking for. Every page of this book is in color and every recipe has a color mouthwatering photograph. And, all the food is healthy, filling and tastes good. Bill and his sister sat down and wrote the book that everyone needs. Period. But it was page 59 that took my breath away. I had never seen this photograph in any of Bill's other books or materials. My heart was still. Page 59 is the photograph that made me believe I CAN really do this. Bill knows what he is talking about. And, he's just like me (except I'm a girl.) At the very least, I hope I look more like him (except a little prettier) after planning my day's eating based on the recipes in this book. I hope I impress myself as much as page 59 made an impression on me.And for others like me, searching for healthy, easy to prepare recipes that taste good -- this book is everything you've been looking for! Good luck.
Book Review: I feel great! Summary: 5 Stars
This cookbook is so wonderful and it's great for families as well. I did the program last winter and lost about 6 lbs in 3 weeks. Then Christmas came and I fell off.
I do remember how wonderful I felt when I was on it. I had more energy. I didn't have as many body aches and pains (I'm 33 and feel like I'm 60). When I took the one day off for a cheat day per week I actually felt sick after eating real candy, cookies, pastries, heavy pizza etc. I'm back on this program again and even though it's only been one day I feel great. I had a whole wheat mini bagel with one whole egg and two egg whites (like his ham, egg and cheese sandwich) and a slice of American cheese.
The recipes are easy and I love how almost all of them have a picture of each item you need at the grocery store. It makes it so simple and easy to shop. And I absolutely LOVE all the pictures of the prepared meal. The best way to sell me on a cookbook is to have pictures of everything!
