Book Reviews of Eating For Life

Book Review: Buy it! You won't be sorry!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this book along with the Body for Life book 8 weeks ago. This book makes the transition to this new program so easy! The recipes are great and what I love is that each recipe is for the whole meal: not just an entree that you have to select side dishes to go along with. It completely removes all guess work! The only thing to realize is that women do need to adjust the amounts, as these recipes seem to be geared for men's portions.

Buy the BFL book and this one. That's all you need to get started. I am a 51 year old grandmother who has never "pumped iron" in her life, but I am a convert now! I'm in my 8th week of my first 12 week challenge and have already lost 23 pounds. Normally (in the zillion other diets I've tried), I would have been bored out of my mind by now. But this is fun and exciting because the results are almost immediate. One thing that WAS immediate was my surge in energy. It was amazing how quickly that occurred.

I highly recommend this book and the original Body for Life book. Do yourself a big favor and do this. I can't believe it took me so long to even learn about this, but I'm so glad I did. I will follow this plan from now on. I feel so great, I don't want to stop!

I have been reading the reviews and a lot of people are putting book down because it does not have the nutritional values. I have been low carbing for 2 years now but no longer can lose the weight. I workout regularly and have been told over and over again by my trainer that I should be eating more carbs. I do miss the bread and pasta. What is great about this book is you can pick and choose between lunches, breakfast and dinner and the mid meals and your entire meal or snack ideas is on one page which makes meal planning that much easier. If you take a good look at your days meals and count the portions of fruit, protein etc you are eating a very balanced diet. What I like about the receipes is that the ingredients (eg. some of the fruits and pasta in the receipes are normal to small portion size so you will not overloading on one food group in any one meal and the ingredients in the receipe seems to balance out to what you should be eating by the end of the day. Maybe it is not so bad not having the nutritional information at hand. I must admit that I had plenty of energy exercising when I was low carbing but maybe I will have more if I add more carbs back into my diet.

Book Review: Eating for LIFE is a reality!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this cookbook for years and still absolutely love it! It is catered to the individual who wants to live a life of clean, healthy, simple, & delicious eating! Not only is it full of variety, everything is portioned, there is a conversion guide, cooking terms & tips, cooking essentials guide, grocery guide, myths & facts, & more. Recently I went shopping for ingredients for a recipe in another nutrition guide & spent way too much time trying to figure out some of the ingredients I've never heard of before. I like trying different foods so that wasn't the problem. The problem was I didn't know the food(s) so I didn't know what to look for in packaging. The Eating for Life book provides an image below each recipe of all of the ingredients needed to prepare the meal. Literally... a photo of each ingredient! When I went to the store it made it so much easier to know what to look for! For example, if it were a canned item I knew not to look for it in the produce section. (Yes, I had this problem with Arugula, haha!) I am so thankful for this book & you will be, too. It's informative as well as a fabulous resource for a healthy lifestyle!

Thank you Bill!!! It's finally here and better than I could have imagined! In Jan/02 when I was in my first Body for Life Challenge, I prayed for this book. While now I'm not currently in a challenge - I still work out and eat the BFL program. For thoses of you, who for fear of the eating regime, never took on the BFL Challenge - now you have one less excuse! I no longer have to cook 2 separate meals - one for me and the other for my family (they swear to mutiny the next time I serve plain brown rice and baked chicken breast for dinner). The receipes are simple, taste good, quick, and the ingredients can be found in any grocery store! Perfect for beginners or veteran cooks. The pictures are full page - so you know what it is suppose to look like and there are even pictures of the ingredients! I LOVE THAT! No more wasted time wandering the grocery aisles! This is a MUST HAVE for everyone 13 - 93 who wants to look good and feel great. I'm buying one for every family member and friend who either continues to threaten a BFL Challenge or keeps asking how I made my transformation from a size 10 to a 2!

Book Review: Great book (plus a response to a negative review)
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this book for my birthday from my family, since they knew that I occasionally dabbled in the Body-for-Life stuff (not too much to show for it yet, but that's mostly my fault -- not eating 6 times a day, having to miss a week of workouts, not enjoying Myoplex, etc.)

This book helps eliminate one of my excuses...the food. To help motivate me to get back in the routine, I started making some of the recipes...and haven't hit a bad one yet! Now, this is not super-gourmet stuff, but that's all the better...they're relatively quick meals, very nutritious (your body can feel it) but still very tasty!

To respond to dalepres' review ("Pure Commercialism..."), I HIGHLY doubt that Philips went to every food manufacturer that he has a picture of in the book to strike up some "advertising" deal. The purpose of the pictures, in my opinion, is to prove to the reader how simple and easily obtainable the ingredients are. And they work...when a recipe lists 8 ingredients, and samples are pictured, I can't usually say "I couldn't find it" in the grocery store.
