Book Reviews of Down by the Bay (Raffi Songs to Read)Book Review: Raffi is wonderful! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been listening to Raffi since my mother played him nonstop on 13 hour roadtrips with six children to see our grandparents. She played him, because it was the only music that we all enjoyed and would listen to over and over again (I am not quite sure how the tape never wore out with all of the rewinding to hear a "favorite" 3 times in a row!). It helped to pass the time and keep us from fighting while she was driving. We aged from newborn to 14 and we all LOVED Raffi. I wanted to purchase his albums so that my children would have the chance to learn from him and have the pleasure of knowing one of the greatest children's entertainer ever!
Book Review: Great for the Music Classroom Summary: 5 Stars
Again, here is another great Read/Sing book. If you love to sing or are a music educator this book is for you. Rich in American folk heritage, this is one of the many songs MENC recommends that all children know. This song can be sung in echo format or as written in the back. My students constantly want me to read it again. They think the verses are hilarious! As I have said in other reviews of books like this, it gets you away from the piano so you can focus on your students' vocal development!A very easy sing along!
Book Review: Great for English language learners Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to use with a small group of English language learners in kindergarten. They loved it! I overheard them singing the words to themselves on their own. I used it to instill language patterns and to teach doing words and the names of animals by substituting other verbs and animals in the pattern, "Did you ever see a ____ (verbing) a ____?" This activity also worked to develop a sense of rhyme. My students' interest was highly engaged through the use of this book.
Book Review: Down By The Bay(Raffi Songs To Read) Summary: 5 Stars
What a wonderful book! Any child who has sung "Down By The Bay" will be thrilled with the opportunity to visualize the subjects in the song, for example, a whale with a polka-dotted tale. The illustrations bring these images to life for our little readers. Raffi is talented in helping kids learn to rhyme and just be silly and happy. I would recommend this book to anyone with kids or to those who simply buy for others.
Book Review: One of my favorites Summary: 5 Stars
As a child this was one of my favorites and now am excited that I have a little one of my own to sing it to. My husband is in the Army and actually calls me from work to tell me he cant get it out of his head. As for my daughter, she is 19 months and really likes looking at the book and dancing to us singing it. This is the same author as Baby Beluga which is just as much a favorite as this one.
