Book Reviews of Double or Nothing: How Two Friends Risked It All to Buy One of Las Vegas' Legendary Casinos

Book Review: Partnership that really paid off
Summary: 5 Stars

Double or Nothing is a look at the formation of the legendary partnership between Tom Breitling and Tim Poster, two very different people whose innovation, ambition, and trust for one another has made them two of the most successful modern business men to date. The story has a great cast of characters including everyone from high stakes gamblers and world famous celebrities, to near wise guys and great men. Tom's stories about his childhood are endearing, those about going into business with Tim are inspiring, while those about The Golden Nugget are intense. The journey of Tom and Tim shows that success can be bred from hard work, high risk, absolute trust, and a little luck (after all it is Vegas).

Book Review: An Entertaining Read about the Power of Partnerships
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great story about the power of partnerships and the ability of two very different people to succeed in two very different businesses. A fantastically entertaining story full of humor, drama, and amazing stories. Double or Nothing takes the reader through million-dollar negotiations and onto the Casino side of historic gambling runs.

Book Review: Tom Breitling's book is proof positive that the successes we achieve in life is dependent on the partnerships that we make.
Summary: 5 Stars

I was expecting this to be a book about how a successful entrepreneur got his start in business and how he made his millions. I was also expecting that I would get some useful information that I could then apply to developing my own business. What I got was exactly this, and a whole lot more. The book is a lesson in life as much as it is a lesson in business. The value of solid friendships and partnerships in creating a successful business is made evident and is not taken for granted. The book is chalk full of entertaining stories that Tom and his partner Tim navigated through on their road to riches. It is written so well that you feel as if you are in the board room with these guys and all of the colorful people that they had business relationships with along the way. Enjoy the book, it is a fun read.

Book Review: What a great story!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a sucker for a good "rags to riches" story, and this is one of the better ones I've read. Tim Poster and Tom Breitling start a room reservation service in Vegas that becomes TravelScape, which is then sold to Expedia for $105 million. They then buy the Golden Nugget, turn it into the showplace of downtown Vegas, and sell it for $113 million profit the next year.

The book feels very much like having a friendly conversation with Breitling over a drink. He tells about the joys and trials of trying to remake a casino under the all-seeing eye of "reality TV" and finds out just how "real" it is. He explains how - and WHY - his partnership with Tim works. All in all, it's a great read about a great friendship.

Book Review: Time Well Spent
Summary: 5 Stars

A fast-paced story that kept my interest cover to cover. It was thrilling to follow the risks they took. Success was not easy. Tom's modesty regarding his role was admirable and a true tribute to his determined and visionary friend Tim. Refreshing to learn a side of Vegas that very few know exists. Grab a copy and enjoy!
