Book Reviews of Double Cross (Alex Cross, Book 13)

Book Review: Disappointing for Patterson
Summary: 2 Stars

In the past, I have loved the Alex Cross novels. But this one is so unbelievable! Could it be that this wasn't Patterson writing the book? Cross gets into and out of so MANY situations that are impossible to escape from, and then escapes, the book becomes boring. And the situations that Cross willing puts himself into defies the carefully built personna of the loving Dad who would never put his family in danger or risk leaving them through death. Too much of a personality change for Cross. And speaking of a personallity change, would he really be jumping in and out of bed with his new girlfriend like a teenager?

I'm glad I bought this book at a garage sale for $1.00. That was about what it was worth.

Book Review: Crossed Out
Summary: 2 Stars

Double Cross will be my last Alex Cross book. I've reached the limit on the silly short chapters and the obsessive behavior regarding his family. I think it's time for 'Alex Cross' to stay out of his children's beds. This combined with the the lame attempt to create some sexual tension between Cross and his flame de jour (even 16 year olds aren't as horny - or as silly - as Cross is in this book!)result in a book that borders on the tedious, and makes it very easy to walk away from. As was said in an earlier posting, the books are coming at too rapid a pace; Patterson should take a deep breath, stop counting his money, and [start to] deliver a quality product.

Book Review: Weak ending
Summary: 2 Stars

The early Alex Cross books by James Patterson were excellent and Double Cross was engrossing for 80%, but the ending was a letdown. Patterson seemed to bring the entire plot to a close so rapidly that he created no suspense and, once again, the killer got away. This was not an "edge of your seat" read. The author's goal is to plant seeds for further novels, but this one left me as a reader feeling empty and unrewarded with a "so what" response and so many questions left unanswered.

Book Review: Too many loop holes
Summary: 2 Stars

This novel leaves far too many things unexplained. Apparently, there is nothing in the world that DCAK or Kyle Craig cannot do (which involves impersonating a police officer, kidnapping a senior detective, traveling to Paris without passport etc). I thought the motives of DCAK should have been explained better. Also, the end is really weird and lame. Disappointing effort by JP.

Book Review: Ho Hum
Summary: 2 Stars

Like many othergood authors, James Patterson has proved with this book that his imagination has fizzled out.
