Book Reviews of Double Cross (Alex Cross, Book 13)Book Review: Can You Argue With Success? Summary: 4 Stars
Author James Patterson has developed a formula for writing fiction bestsellers: very short (2-4 pages) chapters, plenty of action, a sprinkling of lurid themes, and a hallmark character (Alex Cross) who has legions of fans. You'll notice I said nothing about deep character development and profound insights. The vocabulary is never challenging and the references never obtuse. It's like a People Magazine take on a crime novel.
In Double Cross, psychologist/crime-fighter/profiler Cross and his main squeeze, Detective Bree Stone are hot on the trail (when they're not hot on each other) of a serial killer who craves a mass audience. Meanwhile, yet another serial killer, whom Cross put away years earlier, escapes from a maximum sercurity facility and craves revenge on Cross.
There are plenty of chills and thrills. The conclusion is exciting. Many reviews have described Patterson's books as "page turners." I concur. And the door is left widely open for a sequel.
Book Review: Great read--just didn't feel like Alex Cross Summary: 4 Stars
I really liked this book. It was engaging, suspenseful and unpredictable--all the essential elements of a really good thriller. My only complaint was that I didnt feel Alex Cross in this one. In previous books, I have been blown away by Patterson's ability to capture the personality of an African American man in a sensitive, authentic and non-stereotypical way. His phrasing, his cultural references, the way he spoke with his Nana and kids just felt authentically Black--not urban, not gritty, just Black (and as an African American, I get to say that LOL). And I missed that texture in Double Cross. The lead character could have been a white man or an Asian woman for that matter. The point is, it just didn't feel like Alex. And I think the book suffered a bit because of it. What happened?
Book Review: The Real James Patterson Is Back!! Summary: 4 Stars
I was so excited to see this new novel by James Patterson. He is one of the rare authors whose books I buy without question. His books that are written with other authors are usually not very well written. It's almost as if he just gives them the plot and allow the other authors to run rampant with the story. When I saw this book, an Alex Cross book at that, I was hooked. It is a true page turner. The short chapters will have you saying to yourself, late into the night....I'll stop at the next chapter. Then....I'll stop at the next chapter, etc. Before you know it, your done and ready for the next installation. Great book, great storyline, loveable characters and nail biting suspense.
Book Review: Reading with Tequila Summary: 4 Stars
I liked Double Cross. The book was fast, entertaining and as gripping as always. Alex Cross's return to law enforcement was a good, if predicable move. How much crime solving could he really do as a mild-mannered therapist anyway? I'm not really liking his new lady love, Bree, but that's to be expected as Cross's taste in women has always been a bit sketchy. The return of Kyle Craig was a great reminder of the past and has huge potential. All-in-all Double Cross was a respectable Alex Cross novel, on par with other recent additions to the series.
Book Review: james patterson double cross Summary: 4 Stars
I love to read James Patterson's book and Double Cross was a real good read. There were good twists and turns to keep your attention. I read this book in about a week. Craigs return was nice. And I really liked the Alex was working again with his old partner, John Sampson. But yet again Alex has yet another girlfriend. I'm not fond of the so called love side of his stories. They get rude when he explains the way he's turned on. Other than that when it got to the chase of the bad guys it was really good.
