Book Review: Don't let my son as for this book again!
Summary: 2 Stars
We got a few of these books through my son's school book club. I have a policy of not buying children's books without reading them first (we had a HORRIBLE experience with "Diesel 10 Means Trouble") but the flyer had such glowing reviews and the classroom gets free books if you order etc etc etc...
I can't stand these books.
Yes, they are written as if the pigeon is "interacting" with your child. I guess whether or not you like these books depends on how you feel about that. Not as in whether you feel it's a good or bad thing, but how you feel reading this style of book.
Personally, I feel like an idiot reading this book. I feel like it is the sort of thing that would make a good animated short on TV where the character asks your child questions and the child answers - you know like they do on Super Why etc - but to read it aloud, it just feels odd to me. The story is cute enough but not amazing. The illustrations are cute but not amazing. It's just not all that great. Not worthy of a medal!
I am surprised at how many people seem to love these books - I'm gonna have to join hands with the folks who don't, though. The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of 1 is because my son does ask for these books a lot, much to my annoyance.
I will have to be careful about ordering from the book club from now on!
