Book Reviews of Diary of a Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself BookBook Review: WOW, i couldn't put it down Summary: 5 Stars
I am a substitute teacher and aspiring teacher and am always looking for children's books that I can use to build my classroom library. I saw the book on the teacher's desk that I was subbing for and flipped through it. I would have never guessed that I would spend nutrition and lunch engaged in it and hoping to finish it by the end of the day. As a book itself, it is a wonderful book to explore. As a children's book, WOW! I find the reading level to be fairly easy, but the book does not dumb down any content. The actual format of the book helps children who might not be able to digest the comprehension of a regular chapter book , comprehend the story better in smaller sections than with a typical chapter book where the sections might be a tad long. Not appropriate as a read-aloud book to younger students, but a good find for individual reading.I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series!
Book Review: Great book for even early readers. Summary: 5 Stars
My son first discovered the Wimpy Kid books when he was in 1st grade. He loved the first two, and when we saw there was a new one, he wanted it right away. (Before he even opened it, he saw on the back cover that another new one was coming out, and he got even more excited). This book is more of the same (which is a good thing), and it adds a lot of blank areas within the story where it encourages readers to use their imagination and add to the author's story.
My son starting reading this book in the store, and didn't put it down until he had finished it. The last half of the book is just lined pages for the reader to write their own stories. I am going to encourage my son to write in it a little every day.
I can strongly recommend this book to parents of children not only in middle school, but elementary school too.
Book Review: Handbook not like other books but still worth buying! Summary: 5 Stars
Do not buy this book expecting it to be like the other WHIMPY KID books. This is just what the title says: DO-IT-YOURSELF. Encourage your kids to read it, write along, and be creative. Assure them it is safe for them to write whatever comes to mind. Tell them they do not have to share their writing with you unless they want to. If you have a child who is not excited about reading and writing, the DIARY OF A WHIMPY KID books and this handbook could change that completely. You might want to consider buying two books so you too can complete one and you can model the creativity and honesty that you would like to see your child reveal in his or her writing. This is an incredible opportunity to bond with your child while providing unique opportunities to improve writing and reading skills. Did I mention, you will laugh ever step of the way?
Book Review: Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the first 4 books in this series (no.5 was not available yet) and the Do-It-Yourself Book as a birthday gift for our grandson who is in second grade and an accomplished reader. It loves non-fiction books, but was absolutely thrilled when he opened his gift. Immediately he began reading, but over our visit, he consistently wrote in the diary book. He really enjoyed having his very own diary and there are a variety of things to do in this particular book. Another bonus is that the books do not have to be read in a specific order. He would read one day from one book and then after school the next day, read from a different one. He even let a friend from school borrow one of the books ! As a former teacher, what a joy it is to see our young people have such great material to read and to have a love for reading :)
Book Review: Engaging and Interactive Summary: 5 Stars
My 10 year old son loved this book. Within minutes he was reading, writing, drawing... and most importantly using his imagination! Does use some bathroom humor, but my son thought that was hilarious. Offers lots of different things to do with examples on one side and room for your child's own thoughts or drawings on the other. Really encourages your child to get creative. Has quizzes, comic strips etc. Plenty of fun stuff that my child had a blast with. Also includes blank, lined pages so that your child has room to journal.
Has held his interest for longer than I thought it would. I see him from time to time carrying the book around with a pencil in hand. When he get quiet and I ask what he's doing he replies "Writing in my book"! He's not a studious child so this has been a remarkable experience for me!
